Gary is the one dressed in black shirt and faded blue jeans and rocking the guitar in the following video. Rest In Peace all of you.

That hurts. Not that his later Rossington-Collings work was anything to ignore but Skynyrd was the band when I was young. I was basically the dork who taped ankles and mixed Gatorade for football and basketball in high school. Knowing every word to their hits was practically required so you could sing very loudly on the bus to the game.

Duncan -

I hear ya there...I was fortunate to run into this guy one Halloween season by sheer happenstance.

Friendly, affable, and seemed quite relived that I had no idea whom he was (at the time) and we chatted about a local haunted house we were in town for, and he gave us a pointer on an even better one....someone in our group snapped a few photos (they were aware of whom was in our company but played it cool) and later informed me of his identity.

I tickled me that the most affable musician I ever met was the one I never asked for a picture or autograph. Hell of a nice guy.

Yea, he was one sick puppy.

He showed up on the Mark & Brian radio show (must have been in the mid nineties) and went into a rant that finished with him crying - on air. For a comedy based radio show, it was quite humorless.

It amazed me that he got away with what he did....still, time is the great equalizer.

First time I heard "Fish Heads" was on Dr. Demento's radio show in the mid 1970's. RIP.
