recycle paint cans

I have about twenty empty, plastic, one-gallon paint cans. These would make very nice pots for plants, except that they have a metal top that makes removing a potted plaint almost impossible. I refer to the rim that holds the cover, not the cover itself. This is to ask if anyone knows how to rremove these rims. Obviously, I could cut them off but I expect that would lead to rough edges.

Cut the top as mentioned and then slide some of this over the sharp edge on top: https://www.amazon.com/Adhesive-Flexibl ... r=8-8&th=1

If needed for shiny metal cans then you can also get something similar with a chrome finish from auto supply sources: https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/cow ... GAoWnp1tvg

Thanks. That might do the trick.
