I learned this afternoon of the passing of Sparky Anderson, the manager of the Cincinnati Reds' "Big Red Machine" in the 1970s, and later long-time manager of the Detroit Tigers. Anderson was the first manager to win the World Series with teams in both the National League (Cincinnati, 1975-76) and the American League (Detroit, 1984). He was also one of baseball's great characters, and a member of the Hall of Fame.

Anderson was 76 years old. The day before his passing, he'd been placed in hospice care for dementia.

You'll be missed, Sparky.

Big Bad John
