Quicksand Fans

You guys are gonna love 5this one, I spent 3 hours today hooking up a new security processing system at the front check in desk at school, why me do you ask, well for some reason they think I can do a better job than the contractor since I know the schools network and security system. Thats basically because well. I AM the com it for the building. But anyway your gonna love this one it scans your drivers license, cross references it to a data base of known sex offenders, and prints a visitors sticker that you MUST wear while your in the building and have to sign in and out with it. Turns out we got this system because somewhere in the U.S somebody in a system hired a sex offender to work as a custodian.
But this system is soooo sweet, it only takes 15 seconds to do everything, and now I get to see the guy that fixes out fences a little longer when he comes in the mornings for coffee If I ever get stuck in quicksand or thick mud i want HIM pulling me out!

That's actually a little creepy. It's one thing to be required to provide ID to an officer on demand and have him run every check in the system to try and find dirt on me, but it's another thing entirely to have civilians with the same power. I understand and have empathy for the "it's for the children!" angle, but, on a personal level, that would really creep me the hell out if I had to go through it myself.

(Sigh)...school is simply nothing at all like it used to be...we had no thought of guns, we had no scanners, we had no Internet, we had no security people or I.D. badges for visitors...and the custodian was just the custodian...

I feel so OLD!

But, yeah, here and there, I did see cute guys in the halls.

Actually, with today's economy the way it is, that's 100%...untrue.

You're looking at a max of $10 an hour around here for a good janitor generally, less if you go through a staffing company...but if you're hired by the school, you'll make between $13 and $16 hourly plus you'll have affordable health insurance and a retirement plan too.

Any decent custodian will apply at the schools FIRST!

And yes, I really know what I'm talking about with this.

Actually...it's a lucky custodian who'll get that much. If they work for a school and are unionized, that is where the over-$10-per-hour work is. There's not a lot of openings and they fill up fast.

If you don't work for a school, though, forget about any real money. Hardly any building in my area even hires custodians any more. Most building management around here outsources to "cleaning services" and "staffing agencies" who ship their employees to different clients, and you need to have a car and proof of insurance to be hired.

Expect around $10 an hour for this.

Yes, I'm the family computer geek. I'm helping somebody look for work online.

It certainly isn't for me. I hate cleaning.

Such an elaborate security system seems like paranoid overkill, since you would think that an elaborate background check should be applied only to all prospective employees when hiring, instead of every adult that walks through the door. I have seen in the news instances where someone has entered a school, pulled out a gun, and opened fire inside, but protection from that would require everyone to be passed through an x-ray scanner, or be patted down, as well as given the background check.

I don't know yall, To me it seems like a useless attempt since anybody can get a fake id, the fence guy that fixes out stuff outside has an id badge from the City that he's had for 10 years. An it won;t read at all but his drivers license is the new dmv one and it won;t read either, turns out the new Virginia license is completely copy proof LOL, so what are they supposed to do when Ia child molester gets a new license?

Oh the fence guy came in today to get coffee and tell the principal that they were done with the gate repair, guess who i have a date with Friday :):):)

I was going to suggest "accidently" giving the newly repaired gate a love tap with your car on the way out but it looks like ya sealed the deal without having to resort to desperate measures.

Nice job setting up the system. If New York State were doing that, the ITIR (Information Technology Improvement Request) process would take a year, and then another year to bid the job and select a consultant, two years to get it installed and working- by which time, it would be obsolete. And the consultant would never leave.

1. If it only takes fifteen seconds to run a barcoded ID against a database, why do we need such elaborate airport security? And how would someone with a fake ID ever get a job?

2. Remember, Freddie Kruger was also a school custodian.
