Where have I been lately? Two new awesome games

I haven't been around here much lately- I have been doing some gaming- and not the usual Railroad Tycoon type of stuff.

First, there is DeathSpank. A brilliant satire of the "kill monsters, get stuff" genre. And like all good satire, it meets or exceeds the quality of the subject. Only $15 on Steam, (steampowered.com) also. I could take pages to review it- check it out yourself online. Warning: playing this game will result in much, much laughter.

And, my daughter talked me into trying out Lord of the Rings online. Amazing graphics- the folks at Turbine put a TON of loving work into making Middle Earth come to life. But it doesn't bog down even my mediocre computer! Feels more like a simulation than a "game". And it's cool to know there are weapons in the game now that say "Crafted by Osti" (my Dwarf champion). 8-)

Steam puts out some awesome games! I'm totally hooked on Portal and HalfLife (all of them!).

Guess I'm gonna have to get my spank on!

Darkspore has been my passion of late. LotRO is an awesome game, too, and you'll never run out of crap to do.

I have picked up a few games through Steam.

"Hinterland" is a pretty good game- an interesting take on the "Slay & loot" genre- you can make the farmers, hunters, etc. from your settlement take up arms and adventure with you, or guard your village while you're out slaying monsters. The King can be a pest- always asking you for stuff- but he gives decent rewards.

"Star Ruler" is fun if you want to design and build your own fleet of starships, research new technology, and conquer the galaxy.

I got bored with "Spore" pretty quickly- you just don't have the flexibility to design your creatures, their weapons, vehicles etc. that would make it a great game.
