As a member of this board who holds the high honor of being a 101st floor survivor of the South Tower ... ah, that time of year has rolled around again. During the next three weeks I become a most irritating individual and very moody. 10 years does not seem possible? Well, here we go again so once again let this thread be a memory posting and commentary link for all of us here.

Having hitched a ride on a KC-135 tanker in the late night skies of September 12, 2001, and being on one of the few aircraft authorized to fly in US airspace that night, "Never Forget" works fine for me.

It's a different feeling when you're on temporary duty at Dover AFB, Delaware, on September 11, 2001, and you hear the C-5 Galaxys on the tarmac whining to life after the attacks, knowing they're heading to Andrews AFB, Maryland, to bring the remains of those who died at the Pentagon back to the Charles C. Carson Center for Mortuary Affairs there at Dover AFB. Interesting how the Center was one of the units highlighted during the wing in-brief the day before.

Here are my plans for the period, inclusive of being very pissed off at Bloomburg for eliminating survivors totally from everything and the museum for mostly the same.

September 9 - Aon Consulting service for our 19 colleagues, THE service that means the most to me.
September 9 - Evening, religious service in Monroe NY.
September 10 - Street Fair, 3rd Ave in Manhattan - keeps spouse happy.
September 10 - Evening, CITYLINE RESTAURANT in New City - ADULT BEVERAGE TIME courtesy of spouse.
September 11 - 8:45 to 10:29 at Albertus Magnus School in Bardonia, my own private Ground Zero, T Beam there.
September 11 - Afternoon,OLD RHINEBECK AERODROME - just me. My gift to me.
September 11 - Evening: watching THE GREAT RACE .................Push the Button, Max.

The roomie and I were going to check out the new memorial in NYC but decided to wait a few weeks so it's not so crowded. Caught my first glimpse of it on TLC a few days ago....wow.
This year there is one thing to be happy about.

Peggy Noonan in the WSJ hit it precisely. New Yorkers can take anything. A B25 hit the Empire State Building - survived it. World Trade Center 1993 bombing, we were back to work the next day. We could even manage the two fires in the buildings, as bad as that was ... But what made September 11 different...

"It's that the buildings came down, in front of our eyes. They were there and proud and strong, they were massive, two pillars at the end of the island. And then they groaned to the ground and there was a cloud and when people could finally see they looked back and the buildings weren't there breaking through the clouds anymore. The buildings were a cloud. The buildings were gone and that was too much to bear because they couldn't be gone, they couldn't have fallen. Because no one could knock down those buildings.

And it changed everything. It marked a psychic shift in our town between "safe" and "not safe." It marked the end of impregnable America and began an age of vulnerability. It marked the end of "we are protected" and the beginning of something else. "

We were always vulnerable. We will always be vulnerable.

To me the difference was that this attempt succeeded in a way that nothing else did before on American soil. Despite the warnings and clues we didn't put the puzzle together.

My thoughts and prayers to those who perished, the families of those that died, and to those that survived.
