When I first read the article I couldn't believe it was the same Chimp from the 30's/40's. RIP Cheetah. You were truly a Methuselah among apes.

The booze, ciggies and wild nights finally got him.

...RIP, Cheet'.

You were cute in the movies, Cheetah. May the jungle up there be eternally warm and sunny and the fruit on the trees juicy, ripe and numerous.

And because I didn't realize that you could live to be so old, Cheetah...for just a few seconds, there, I thought that this was about some hot human babe that I never heard of before.

It seems that numerous chimpanzees played Cheeta (or Cheetah, or Cheta, or Chita - no-one seems to have made a final decision) in Tarzan films. Sometimes several in the same film.

The original Cheeta seems to have been called Jiggs - but he died in 1938.

The chimp who died recently was called Cheeta-Mike (or Org) and may or may not have been formely owned by Johnny Weismuller.

Still, why let the facts spoil a good story?
