Quicksand Fans

This shot caught my eye while reading about the knucklehead pirates who Tried to board a commercial ship, and were unaware the Stennis and her entire Battle Group were seaward about, oh 8 miles....

I believe the Admiral said something to the effect of "these gotta be the dumbest pirates ever..."

Reminds me of a story of another group of not-too-bright pirates from the same general locale who boarded a ship (last year?) thinking it was a freighter only to find out it was the French naval command ship in the area... crewed by well armed French troops. oops.

Reminds me of a cop show that was on a few years ago that starred William Devane.
A couple robbers went into a crowded bar, guns drawn, demanding the employee to empty the register. The employee calmly said "You don't want to do that." The crooks said "Just hand it over and no one gets hurt." The employee handed over the money and about that time from behind you hear from the bar multiple CLICK! CLICK! CLICK! They turned around and had a "Oh crap" look on their faces. The place was wall to wall cop with their guns drawn and their badges out.

That sounds a lot like Code of Silence with Chuck Norris... a great bit, as two bozos try to rob a cop bar... later, they are cuffed to the bar while everyone else keeps drinking.

They ain't supposed to be smart, mind you...


Now, THIS, is the right feel for that shot

Wasn't there an episode of "The A-Team" where the team was hired to protect a roadside diner from gangsters; they heard that an attack on the diner was imminent, so they put out an advert, "half price lunches for cops", and when the gangsters arrived in force, the place was full of LAPD, Sherriffs, CHP...mind you, I wonder why they mob didn't notice all the black and whites parked out front....

Similar to idiot pirates...

When I was a teenager I worked for a couple years at a local general store. There was a notorious local bad guy who came in late one night and tried to buy a pack of cigarettes with a $100.00 bill. We knew he was just fishing to see how much change we had in the drawer so we told him we couldn't break it. Sorry, see you later.

The next night there was a horrible crime at a gas station in town and a guy we knew was cut up very badly. He lived only by being able to reach an alarm before he collapsed but was disabled the rest of his life. He had no memory of who his assailant had been. A lot of circumstantial evidence pointed to the notorious local bad guy but the police had nothing they could use against him.

Just to show you how karma works in this world, Mr. Notorious local bad guy and a partner entered another market to hold it up a couple weeks later. He had failed to notice the six cops in the back who were returning from a hunting trip. The resulting fusillade was terrific and rendered the market, Mr. Bad guy, and his partner, into something resembling a pile of carnal Swiss cheese. Amazingly enough Mr. Bad guy survived but painfully so for the rest of his dumbass incarcerated life. His partner was not so fortunate.

The only problem I have with this story is that they didn't immediatly turn the boat and it's scumbag crew into floating debris. You're not going to solve the piracy problem by continuing to pay ransoms.

Something similar happened a few years ago in England; an armed robber burst into a fishing-tackle shop , armed with a sawn-off; except the shop had changed hands since the would-be thief had cased the joint, and was now a gun shop, and the owner was demonstrating to a customer how to load a 9mm Browning; the would-be thief got an unwanted demonstration of the Browning's VERY rapid rate of fire.
