I remember when that happened. That was an interesting write-up. I had no idea the idiot actually intended to fire a live missile.

Although I don't recall that particular story, I do remember back in or around 1987 or 1988 reading a "comical" account of the event written in some publication about how the Navy and Air Force were doing a "one-up-manship" on one another...
It started off with how a Navy fighter had shot down an Air Force plane with, "This actually happened," in parenthesis.
This was then followed with the disclaimer, "The rest is made up for fun." The comical article continued with...
- The following day the Air Force shot down two Navy planes (again, made up... DID NOT REALLY HAPPEN).
- The day after that the Navy shot down four Air Force planes (again, made up... DID NOT REALLY HAPPEN).
- The day after that the Air Force sunk an aircraft carrier (again, made up... DID NOT REALLY HAPPEN).
Intereseting to read the entire event that led to that comical spoof of the situation.
