When playing real time strategy games in widescreen... ideally you have a computer powerful enough so that vertically you can see as much as you would be able to on a 4:3 screen, while the extra widescreen inches allow you to see extra horizontally. But if you have to use lower resolutions and end up seeing the same amount horizontally and less vertically that would indeed be a pain in the butt.
