Yup, that'll win hearts and minds.

^^@3:05 "I've got women and children moving around down in the tents so watch your fire"
Those tiny little specks you see blinking on and off in the background are small arms fire, so it's not like they were putting up their arms in surrender.

If America was invading my country I wouldn't bloody surrender either.

If you supported wholesale murder of innocents, terrorism, abusing women and children, all in the name of hijacking a stone age religion, after murdering three thousand of my countrymen, we wouldn't give you much of a chance to surrender.
Oh yeah, that's what we just saw.
It's a dirty job but I got to do it for 27 years. Thank you.

Personally, what I think we just saw was a recruitment poster for the Taliban - kill twenty, make a thousand more bloody angry. It's a lesson we British learned a long time ago, and is why the Empire is no more.
But let us set aside the politics and the practicalities. There is one question I'd really like an answer to. Why was this clip uploaded to you-tube; and why was it linked to on this site? Entertainment?
For crying out loud - are we really that sick? Have we not moved on from the days of the Colosseum? What next - throwing Afghans to the lions?
Maybe so. Maybe what we think of as civilisation is simply a veneer of self-delusion.
In which case, the world is fucked.

Yep; Lomax, you were warned.
I'm disapointed with your throwing the Afghans to the Lions comment. Not all Afghans are Taliban or aQ, so don't insult every Afghan. Besides, all three are Muslim for the majority, whereas Christians were thrown the the lions, if I get your attempt at an anology.
If I may, from my First Person experiance here in Afghanistan; this is not an Invasion. Every last person that is wearing the uniform, (From the EU to North America and Africa) would like to go home- once the job is done. Did your grandparents think that the U.S. had invaded by force, prior to jumping off for Normandy in 45? Yea, yea, yea; "Over paid, Over sexed, and Over here." think of something else.........
Tell you what; if you want to make a million pounds, devise a machine that can figure out what is in a persons heart. I know of a few wives and husbands who would want that machine, not to mention the Airtravel Industry.
Thanks for hosting the Olympics. Good show.

bart1997 wrote:The question is "when is the job done?" for a whole lot of your allies now. We (speaking of the "west" as a whole) did spend billions and billions of currency and hundreds (thousands?) of our own soldiers lives in that region. There is still no "nation" to speak of, also no stable government and there's a pretty good chance those taliban will rise to power again in an incredible short amount of time after the last western soldier has left the country.
The next question would be if all those efforts and hardships were worth it?
Right now i have to sadly say that almost everything was wasted, and that makes a very big difference to your '45
We are going to be getting out. I will even say before the job is done. You can thank my Apoligist in Chief.
Why do I have to say this (?????); A job is done when it is done. (I get this alot; "I'm done Sargeant." Then I find that the equipment is dirty, loose nuts and bolts, tools are dirty and not put away. "I covered this in our Initial counseling, last month's counseling, and for that matter the last time we fixed it. You have all the time in the world to sit around and BS when you should be fixing and training, now you wanna go play? Sorry, no deal. You ain't goin' anywhere till it's done.") We came here to do several things; Kill aQ and Taliban being one of them. When the Allies fought the Germans we knew who the enemy was by the uniform they wore. In the War on Terror, they have no uniform, but the Coalition still gives them the same rights as uniformed fighters.
I will disagree with you on the no Nation comment. The Afghan govt is stable. It has infighting and back-door deals too. The US govt did as well in it's infancy and, unfortunatly, still does today. I'm glad we don't have comunists.
The Taliban rising to power? Possibly. They, at this time, are the neighborhood stray, begging for scraps now. Not the loveable mutt that your family want to have. "Oh daddy, mummy; Can't we catch it and keep it. We'll love it, I swear!" This is the fukin' dog that bites the hand that feeds them. Barks and nips when it doesn't get what it wants like it is a rabid animal. They don't have the money to do anything of substance. In 2001 they drove around in Toyota 4x4s, now they drive motorcycles and conive for gas.
Not for nothing; Germany had it's fair share of what we now call terrorists in 1945-47. We stayed in Germany past 1949 to hold off the Soviets/ Russians. We bailed out of assisting the Afghan people when the Russians left, and look what happened. Sorry, I not looking forward to sending my kids over here again.
Sorry.
