Special Effects pioneer and master has left us at 92. His work will be forever known.

Another true original and pioneer lost... It is a pity in these days of excessive CGI folks forget the incredible contributions to cinema Ray has made to screen effects. As just one example, who can ever forget the skeleton scene from Jason and the Argonauts? Or anything from the original Clash of the Titans? Maybe folks can do it more "realistically" these days with computer animation, but I will always prefer Ray's stop motion. It has soul, and the direct touch of the human craftsman about them. That no computer can ever match.
RIP Mr. Harryhausen.

Clash of the Titans was one of the earliest movies I remember watching. One Million Years BC was great too. RIP

The time and expense required for stop-motion animation kept thousands of crap movies from being made. Cheap CGI opened the floodgates.
I'll take mediocre stop-motion over most of even the best CGI effects. The Valley of Gwangi was my first "monster movie," and it's still one of my favorites.

He did some very cool work and had Rad Bradbury and Forrest Ackerman as teenage friends. What a lineup.
In my rather stunted mind his greatest contribution to mankind was helping to make Raquel Welch famous. I can't envision a finer epitaph than having this lady call me a genius.

According to Hollywood legend it was Willis O'Brien, the man who animated King Kong, that got credit for it but it was actually a young Ray Harryhausen who did most of the work.

One of my favorite movie people. Stop-motion animation is, if anything, even tougher than hand-drawn. However, when done right, the effects are nothing short of spectacular. So long, Mr. Harryhausen. I'm afraid we won't see someone like you again for quite a while.
