Mossberg is the official shotgun of my house. There's so many neat toys you can buy for even a basic model 500. Best of all it never fails to make people notice when called on to do so.

I brought two unfired 500's from LA when I moved to Tennessee.
Besides walking outdoors naked and building bonfires, shooting those just steps outside my door has been a true pleasure that California will never permit.
The very first shot?

Have had a 500 for over ten years now, never fails to function mechanically or psychologically when one racks a round into the chamber.
As for the slugs, BRI (ballistics research institute) used to be a neat little company that made aerodynamically stabilized rounds with a sabot that separates from the projectile just out of the barrel. Winchester bought them out and now offer
http://www.cabelas.com/product/Winchester-Super-X-reg-BRI-Sabot-Slugs/739861.uts which is a much tamer version, but still rather effective on damn near anything that needs stopping.
At 1,400 FPS it is faster than most 9mm rounds and 1 full oz. of lead at that speed provides a HELL of a lot of kinetic energy

Like he said in the video it's hard to decide. Right out of the box both are rock solid reliable and there's a huge aftermarket full of any accessories you could possibly want.
I recommend buying the lowest cost plain Jane model and doing the mods yourself. Mossy and Remington both tend to overcharge for upgrades you can easily do yourself with a screw driver and some locktite.
Funny this subject came up because I was just at my local gun shop last night drooling over one of these. Might be getting added to the collection if I can haggle the price down a bit more.

Another Space Gun

Does look pretty cool though. But whats the deal on the ejection port? From the comments It sounds like it might be an issue for getting cut/injured from spent shells.

Have you done any of these in combination?

I'm not an expert by any means, but having the ejection port positioned close to where the shooters arm is seems like a bad idea....

The shells eject straight down behind the pistol grip (hard to see in the video) and they can catch you in the wrist on the way out of the gun. Can cause minor scratches but nothing I'd call a cut. For a two foot long boomstick with a 15 round capacity I'll put up with it or wear shooters gloves.

You can just see a bandage on his right wrist on the inside top; perhaps it was one of those aluminum casings he was mentioning. It doesn't seem like a big deal from the minimal commentary on it
