My only worry about Disney is that they're going to go too far into kiddie land with the franchise. That's one of the things that constantly plagues the prequels.

They will only get one crack at it, and if they fuck it up, all their money bullshit wont save them. There's a list out there on how to do it right, but you can be pretty simple: no cute or fuzzy things just as toys. Nod and smile if Lucas 'suggesting' things -- if he has moved on, then so be it. Think more grit, less gloss. The Falcon is legend --- uber-chrome sportscars aint. Be serious -- the original Darth didn't fuck around or take shit from anyone -- he was ready to kill someone just for disagreeing with him The Force is mysterious; not a science experiment or trek episode. The entire EU fiction is horseshit --- completely ignore it

Using those guidelines alone should work.

Rebels is set between 3 and 4, so you have a 19-odd year time period to work in. Hell, I WANT to see different factions of rebels fighting, each other as well as the Empire, AND getting smashed to pieces. The Empire didn't stick around that long by being cute and diplomatic and listening to focus groups and senate commissions. It did it with sheer firepower and numbers, and the willingness to employ it.

As far as I'm concerned, Star Wars has already been ruined. I've never been a fan of J.J. Abrams. Why?

1. Alias did nothing for me and I gave up on it after just a few episodes. From what people tell me of what happened later on, it was a good decision.

2. Lost was a huge disappointment not only because they had 6 seasons on a topical island and no QS, but the entire show was a PhD dissertation on how to waste time. When it was over, my first thought was you had 6 seasons and this was all you could come up with? They could have done it in 2 seasons, 3 tops.

3. I'm a huge fan of TOS Star Trek. He took a big part of my childhood and some of the most groundbreaking concepts in sci fi and made them into an extremely typical, prefabricated Hollywood exercise on how to be unoriginal.

So for me, until proven wrong. There's no way JJ can create the magic again. Just me two cents.

I looked up J.J. Abrams' resume' and I am NOT impressed. The "Star Trek" reboot was an epic fail.

When I'm President, I will have a band from the ATF (black uniforms and fritz helmets) play that song in my inaugural parade.

If it follows in the steps of the Clone Wars, it might be okay; it looks like very large percentage of the people involved are carryovers. It also may or may not be subbing for the live-action series that was supposed to be in the works, but money issues, etc are always factors there. Abrams might be fine if he smart enough to know what he doesnt know; ie - listen to people who are more versed in the mythos than he is. Also, see above for how not to fail -- taking the ST shiny approach would not work; it barely worked for the prequels and failed plenty in some concepts.

Next time you have a few free hours, sit down, and really watch one of the original trilogy movies. I mean really WATCH it, like someone who's never seen it before, and then tell me how it's the most amazing thing ever put to film.

Yea, sorry, they're not. They're good movies, and they have their great moments, and they have a huge fan base but the fact of the matter is they're no better or worse than what's being offered today. The fact is the prequels aren't that bad. They're good movies that got ruined by piss poor acting.

And what's the deal with hating on special effects? Do you guys really want to go back to the days when combat was simulated with shitty cardboard models and bottle rockets? Fuck that noise. Holes blown in the hull with screaming CGI redshirtsicles floating around in space is fucking awesome, and I'm not ashamed to say so.

It's never been about CG to me Myn, it's about look and style. The new Enterprise looked more like a fucking apple commercial, not a starship. It took CG 25 years to get to the point it is at now, and even so, using models is still superior in many ways . Except one, NOW --- costs. Used to be the other way around, but now you can sim pretty much anything cheaper than building it. There will always be someone who disputes how stuff gets done. Lets just hope they put a good effort into it.
