"I'm going to have to call you back...."

Welcome to another episode of "Assholes With Cellphones" Theater.......
Guy in the upside down car was too busy talking to notice the red light. Entered the intersection from the opposite side doing 40ish (about twice the posted limit). Old guy who never saw it coming hits him on the drivers side (red car in the background of the first picture). At this point I don't know what kind of physics took hold but the Subaru did this insane motion picture worthy flip/pirouette, got at least 5-6 feet of air, and landed upside down right in front of my Jeep (black/tan Wrangler in the pics) close enough to just tag the bumper. I think I missed dying tonight by about 5 feet.
Backed up a few feet, got out, ran up to the Subaru, and no shit, the first thing I hear is the cockbag hanging from the drivers seat say "I'm going to have to call you back, I just had a little fender bender."
So the old guy gets out of his car, he's ok, Dickbag crawls from the wreckage of his own stupidity and amazingly he's ok too. 911 Operator asks what happened, I tell her the guy ran a red light while talking on a cell phone, and the fucking motherfucker overhears this and actually has the gall to chime in and say "But I was wearing my headset!!".......at that moment I was conflicted. I wanted to simultaneously laugh, cry, and put my foot up the motherfucker's ass.

And people wonder why I applaud fines/jail time for the idiots who get caught talking/texting with their phones while driving?

Miracle nobody was seriously injured. Glad your okay Mynock. And yes, I'd be tempted to grab an officers taser at that point too.

The biggest problem is the punishment for this shit needs to be increased. This asshole deserves at least a 6 month suspension of his driving privileges but I guarantee you he'll get a slap on the wrist, a fine and be driving a rental tomorrow. Start yanking licenses when people get caught and they'll think twice before doing it.
Did some close-up examinging when I got home and had decent light, bumper's pushed in about a half inch on that side. If the frame's jacked and they total it I'm finding out where this mother fucker lives and parking it in his living room. Then they can tow it away.

My mother hates flying but I love it. I've never had a problem in an airplane but I can't count the number of times I've nearly been killed by someone babbling away on a phone while never even seeing me. Dave had a wild ass fandango in front of Camp MPV early this season where a distracted driver on a straight stretch of road in the middle of a clear day managed to hang her SUV upside down from a utility pole at the end of his drive. He got her out unharmed.

I've lost count of the number of times the proverbial "asshole talking on a cellphone" almost took me out on the commute. And in a majority of those incidents, said asshole was driving a BMW. ??? If I weren't in a financial position where I'm down to one vehicle and can't afford to replace it, it would be SO tempting to not brake quite quick enough and do a PIT maneuver, spinning them out. Would be too dangerous to other drivers on the road, I suppose.

Hell, I could have nearly gotten run over a couple of summers ago when I was walking to the store and some idiot woman's car was driving slowly and a bit erratically because the stupid idiot was looking down at her phone and texting with both hands and neither of them on the damn steering wheel. Not even looking at the fucking road! And this was right around the time when middle schoolers got out and there were kids walking everywhere after having gotten off the bus. I had a brief moment of wanting to chase her down (which would have been easy enough since the car was driving so damn slow), and scream at her that she could have gotten children hurt or killed because she wasn't paying attention.

That incident still gets me steamed.

in my state it is a simple 1oo dollar fine, i agree, they should suspend licencses or something. i don't know how many times i have seen people talking on cellphones, applying makeup and yelling at screaming kids all at the same time. then proceeding to run a red light or stop sign and cant figure why they did that. we have had several car accidents in the past six months where people have killed someone while texting, but people just dont care, they seem to think they have to answer a text immediately, instead of at the next convenient or safe moment. For the record, the last text-car accident the lady was cited for vehicular homocide and got 3 years in jail for it, not enough but a start

I have never seen anybody texting while driving in my part of the world. But so many people speaking by phone while driving! Fines are high on our measures (like $60) but it seems nobody cares...

Other thing that would be simple is make the damn things cut out when the car's moving. Pretty much every new phone has a GPS chip in it.....rig it so the only thing that functions is 911 if they're moving over, say, 10mph.
