A former fellow employee at a company I've had association with was working with two other men to install some new computer/telecommunications equipment in the World Trade Center. On Monday the 10th, they were hooking it up, intending to leave for 24 hours and come back to check on how it was behaving. They had trouble getting it operational that day, and finally got it working well past 9 a.m. Then, one of the three went home to Toronto to be with his family.

The other two were sleeping in when the towers were hit. If the equipment had been operational before 9 a.m....

Another employee of the company had to make an emergency service call during the closed airspace period in Canada. The chartered plane he was riding in was intercepted by Canadian Armed Forces jets, and he had to explain that it was a community phone outage he had to go work on.

My wife got home 2.5 hours before the towers were hit and the Greyhound system she came on was shut down.
