Stupid multitasking isn't anything new. Back in the late 70's, I knew this gal who was just a little older than I was, and she parked a book on her dashboard and tried to read while driving.

If it's that important to say/call/text, then pull over. If it's that important to keep going, leave the phone alone. I routinely ignore my cell phone when driving unless I'm expecting a call of priority nature (in which case it's on the seat next to me, not in my pocket, and I'll answer long enough to say "just a moment", then pull over and stop). In theory, as a Wal-Mart cashier, I wasn't supposed to have it on me, but I did, switched to only vibrate. That way, I'd know "something" came in, but I wouldn't find out what it was until my break time. If I was a teen in school, I'd do the same, though if they use "cell phone" detectors and confiscate even for such benign possession, then I guess I wouldn't even be able to do that. (I'd check it at lunch, after dismissal, or during a class break if my two class locations were close enough together.)

Call number display should be standard for cell phone service (I have to pay $10 extra for my phone and my wife's), and name display should be provided as well; that way, fewer people would be tempted to answer because they otherwise might not know who called.

They should show this in America. It would do a lot of good.

And whoever complains about it should be shot point blank in the skull with a SPAS-12.

Brings back flashbacks of Drivers' Ed. Pay attention, kids.

Much as I hate to say it, and I do NOT approve of "anything" and driving really, and regret that there would be innocent victims involved...

...but this is such an example of Darwin's law. If someone is stupid enough to be texting, or applying makeup, or looking over their papers in their briefcase, while driving, they DESERVE to hit a brick wall.

What sucks is that regardless of whether it's a drunk, a pot-head, a street racer, a texter, or an asshole zooming around through traffic in a humvee, it's almost always the innocent ones they crash into who die while they walk away.

I'd love to hope such a message would work. I don't have the faith in humanity to believe it though...

My little bro just got his permit a month ago. I made him watch it till his eyes bled a few nights ago.
The sad thing is they don't show stuff like this in drivers ed anymore because they think it's too tramatic for kids to see.

I was the projectionist for a lot of drivers ed fllms in high school. I'm sure I'm not the only one who recalls drivers ed movies circa '78. Most of those dated from ten or twenty years before and were nastier gorefests than all of the Saw movies combined. As I have come across more than my share of road accidents over the years I always think about those movies. Very terrible but honestly educational stuff.
