Congratulations are in order to the Russian Federation, for the overall gold total, overall medal total, and for what turned out to be a pretty successful Games.

Agreed. My family are big Olympic Games watchers. I do wish you could put an asterisk next to some of those medals though since at least four of the gold medals belong to citizens of other nations who were given citizenship by the Russians just so they could be on the Russian Olympic team.

I'd also like to give a special medal to the media for Olympian levels of pre-games hysteria over issues we all knew would become non-existent as soon as the opening ceremonies began. They completely lost interest in terrorism, facilities, persecution, etc. once they had something else to cover. The Brazilians would do well to drive arriving media straight to Ipanema where the distractions are abundant and much more pleasant.

and how many of our team are guys with some minimal tie to the USA?

Good point but we didn't grant any of them full citizenship just so they could be on the team. It also gets back to the question of the Olympics being about athletes or nations. Regardless, we loved it.

I thought it was hilarious the Latvians had their best showing ever, while being coached by a Canadian, from here, who I knew in high school :P
