Here in Va Bach the school year is supposed to be 180 days, with 4 built in snow days.BUT according to one of the custodians sometime back in the 90's they added the snow days into the required school year making it 184 days, well we had three snow " storms" this year and missed three days of school, so....the superintendent decided on her own that we would make them up on Saturday's thanks to her I have so far missed a couples date with my boyfriend and his sister and her boyfriend on his boat, today I missed a trip to Richmond for a local band that I have loved since I was 14, and next time I'll miss a Tides game :(, I'm looking for a new job outside the school system, and I swear I hope it pays enough that if I ever get married and have kids I can send them to private school

You're breaking my heart kiddo. ;) In 1977 we had the worst winter of my life and had to go on Saturdays and stay and hour later each day for two months. This was at a private school and the public school kids were in school all through June. Never had another winter close to that and I doubt you will either.

UGH, I hope we never ever see another winter here like that for a long long time. The fact that we're looking at our first week in a long long time were the temps don't dip below 40 at one point during it is glorious to me.

Also luckily Beach schools will get permanent superintendent soon. The interim one has done a lot of very very questionable things since she took over. I know July 1st when he takes over can't come soon enough for most people.

I have no direct knowledge of your school system but if the 180 days is a requirement of state law your superintendent may not really have any choice.

It has been a horrible winter, that's for sure. But hopefully...you get summers off? Maybe? A part of it at least?

I have never worked anywhere that was officially called off for a day over snow. Everywhere I have ever been, a snow day only happens when you literally cannot get to work no matter what you do. So a snow day for me has always meant that I'm either totally snowed in for a day, or I have made it to work despite the hellish drive, and when I arrive, the place is half-staffed.

Other workplaces around here do get snow days. The gym I go to these days closed for a whole day this winter because they said it was too dangerous for their workers to come in. Where I am, though? Work goes on. No matter what.

For some reason, I just tend to end up working for bosses who never declare snow days, ever.

One day this winter, I woke up to 2-1/2 feet of new snow. I shoveled the snow out of my driveway and then I went to work anyway. It took twice as long to get to work. What do you do when that happens? If you didn't make it in on time, you make it up by staying late!

Making them up on Saturdays is kind of stupid........why not just go for another week Mon-Thurs and call it even instead of ruining three weekends for people?
Could be worse though. I was in 6th grade in 1993 when we had that winter that was just positively insane with blizzards every week for a period of 2-3 months. There weren't just snow days there were snow WEEKS lol. It was fun while it lasted but we ended up having to make up just shy of a months worth of snow days and we were forced to remain victims of the pube-lick school system till almost the 4th of July.
