A quicksand carpet! Every home should have one.

I totally agree! I wish I had one but I think my wife would get rather annoyed with me after a few trappings.

Partially, yes. Though I had read about or heard about or seen quicksand carpets put to use elsewhere previously. Can't remember where though.
The other inspiration I took for this was from "The Mighty Hercules" cartoon scene where the evil wizard (Daedelus, I think?) turned the ground beneath Helena's feet into quicksand.
I wanted to use a combination of those two things in doing this story.

Part Two is ready and I'll put it up after New Year's.
