A short "Artifact Hunter" adventure. Enjoy! :)

The Final Trap - Part 1

Having avoided the deadly traps set by the King's architects, Susan enters the burial chamber and marvels at the enormous wealth and treasure entombed with the ancient monarch. But all this must be left behind - the rightful property of the descendants of these mysterious people.
The thing she has come for, at the request of the currently reigning government, sits atop a cylindrical stone at the feet of the sarcophagus containing the King's mummy. A canopic jar which supposedly holds the only words written down in hieroglyphs on a papyrus by the young pharaoh.
Unable to properly care for such a delicate document themselves and unwilling to trust its fate to chance, the government has asked the Artifact Hunter's Guild to retrieve the scroll and attend to its preservation. Not having to risk the multitude of traps is another unspoken benefit of contracting the A.H.G.
The traps were challenging, to be sure, but, thankfully, not completely unpredictable. The only out of place oddity Susan couldn't fathom was a large water-filled cistern in a room adjacent to the main corridor.
Susan carefully lifts the four thousand year old jug and places it securely in her pack, surrounded by cotton wadding. As she turns to leave, a deep rumbling begins somewhere in the walls of the tomb.
"Shit..!" Obviously, this place held some surprises after all! She breaks for the exit as the walls start to bow inward. It's collapsing in on itself!! She runs full-tilt, dodging toppling statuary and leaping fallen chunks of stone heavy enough to crush a car. In her flight, she doesn't notice that the strange cistern in the other room is now empty of water.
Light at the end of the tunnel! Susan sprints up the stairs to the entrance which still seems reasonably stable. The cloud of dust as she exits seems almost to eject her as if the tomb is clearing its throat. She glances back one last time as she bursts out at full speed.
Suddenly, Susan is shocked as her headlong flight comes to an abrupt end in a thick splash of wet sand! In an instant she is up to her waist in thick goo! What was solid ground before has now become quick and Susan begins to sink rapidly!

The Final Trap - Part 2

Trying not to panic, she holds steady, bracing her hands against the surface of the tomb's final trap. It does no good. Susan descends quickly to her midriff - then her breasts - then her shoulders in the marshmallowy ground! She throws out her arms, trying to increase her buoyancy on the surface. It helps, but barely. She's still sinking fast! She reaches for what appears to be the edge of the newly formed slough. Its her only chance! Her fingers dig in and hold...for a moment until the muck heaves beneath her and Susan descends to her chin, her tenuous hold slipping..!
