The term "hold-ups" is a misnomer... they won't hold you up as you sink even deeper.

I've been using marker paper from a pad as it's quite thin and my figure drawing isn't brilliant so I'm usually half tracing from reference for the outlines on a light box with Faber-Castell Pitt artist pens, usually XS or S, then coloured with a variety of pens I have been trying like Copics and Spectrum Noir.

Ahhh... Copics, that explains the shading. And I must admit I've taken to using a lightbox too, don't know where I'd be without it.

As well as that, there are almost always details too complex to draw unassisted so I find the lightbox gets me through.
