Brie and her mother stepped off the large cruise ship. Brie's face was gleaming with excitement, her short, red hair flowing in the tropical breeze. Her mother had finally raked enough money together for the two to take a vacation they'd both been waiting for for years. They had finally made it to the Alola region. The region layout was not much different from their own, a few islands surrounded by water, too much water some may say.
On Brie's shoulder, her loving and loyal best friend/companion, little Mudkip was just as excited as its trainer was. The two had been the best of friends ever since they met a little under two years ago. Neither forgot the day that Brie fell into quicksand trying to rescue the little creature. Mudkip quickly ran off to alert the bigger members of the forest in order to rescue her. The two were together ever since.
The three of them were to stay in a small apartment in the town of HeaHea. Not only were they on vacation, Brie was also there for a few other reasons. She wanted to catch one of the newly discovered Alolan Pokemon. All of the cute new creatures infatuated the young adult. From the cute little white and yellow fly to the little thing that dressed up like Pikachu. Everything was adorable to her.
Brie was also looking to for a place to live. Her and her mother discussed the move. Now that her father was coming around more often, Brie figured it was a good time to move. And she thought that Alola was the perfect place. The peaceful, tropical feel was perfect for the twenty year old.
The two women walked into the little house where they would be staying for the next two weeks. "Oh my goodness, mom. This place is beautiful!" Brie said, twirling around to get a full 360 view. "Yeah, it is." Her mom agreed. "I wouldn't mind moving out here." Brie nodded in agreement. She had saved a good bunch of money from her job, she knew she could afford the house they were in if she wanted to.
She was pulled out of her thought by the lovely "kip!" from her little blue friend. Brie giggled and picked up Mudkip. "Do you like it too, buddy?" She asked. Mudkip responded with and excited chirp and a head nod. "Hey mom, can we go out and look around?" She asked. Her mom nodded. "You go ahead. I'll stay behind and get stuff put away." She said.
Brie cheered, grabbed her suitcase, and ran to her room. She changed out of her typical outfit, a red t-shirt, black vest, black cargo shorts, and red sneakers. She then grabbed her favorite red sundress and white sandals. She walked out and her mom turned around to face her. "By the way, are you still planning on catching a new Pokémon?" She asked.
Brie smiled when she heard that statement. She always got excited when she thought of herself catching a Pokemon, imagining herself as a full on trainer, a dream she knew was far gone. "Yes, mom. But don't worry, I'll buy the Pokeball, food, and everything else it'll need." She said. Her mom sighed and smiled, she was used to taking care of everything Brie needed. It was strange for her to not have to pay for anything.
Brie ran out, Mudkip following closely behind. Their first stop was the Pokemon Center. Brie handed Mudkip to Nurse Joy for a checkup that was required when Pokemon from outside regions enter. In the meantime, she wandered around the Pokemart, located inside the Center. She bought a few things, a lemonade for herself, a few treats and toys for Mudkip, and most importantly, a Pokeball.
Once she was done shopping, Brie went back over to the nurse, who was holding her Mudkip, looking as happy as ever. "Don't you worry about a thing, Miss Brianne. Your Mudkip is perfectly healthy." Nurse Joy said. Brie smiled and took her friend from the nurse. "Thank you very much." She said. "Have a good day!" She called over her shoulder and she ran out.
Brie walked into the nearby forest, knowing she would find a bunch of neat Pokemon there. As she walked, she sipped her lemonade and fed Mudkip its treats. She looked around at all the little rustling bushes and scurrying animals. She stopped in her tracks when she saw something truly astounding. A little, black Rattata with a cute little mustache.
At first she thought it was some sort of new shiny Pokemon. Until she remembered flipping through Poke-Trends magazine and reading a story about new forms of Pokemon being discovered that were exclusive to the Alola region. The strange looking mouse fascinated Brie. She realized it'd be the perfect friend to bring back home.
"Hey, little guy. My name's Brie. This is my friend Mudkip." she said as she carefully and slowly walked towards it. The Rattata hissed and ran off immediately. Brie pouted and sighed. "Okay, bye bye." She said. She got up, let Mudkip back on her shoulder, and began walking again. The two were wandering about, oooing and aahing at the exotic creatures that passed them.
Then, she heard it. Brie turned her head to the sound of soft whinnying. Brie quietly snuck into some bushes and gazed upon the source. A small, tan colored, horse-like creature with its back turned to her. It was staring intensely at the ground, seeming to have a smile on its face. From what she saw, Brie thought the small horse was really cute. She decided that it looked friendly enough to be her friend.
She stepped out into the open carefully. "Hey little guy..." she said quietly. The creature turned around to face her. Once she got a look at its face, Brie recognized it. It was a Mudbray, another one of the newly discovered Alolan Pokemon. The Pokemon let out a noise that sounded like a chuckle and took off running in the opposite direction.
Brie frowned. She really wanted to befriend this creature. She began to lightly jog across the clearing. She got about half way across when her legs plunged into the dark brown mud that was camouflaged with the rest of the ground. Letting out a squeal of shock, Brie began pulling on her legs, trying to free them. The plunge sent her legs down to her mid thighs, slowly settling to her waist.
"Uh oh..." Brie said to herself, getting flashbacks to her first experience with mud like this. Soon after, the little Mudbray returned from the bushes, its mischievous smirk still present. "H-hey little guy... can you please help me out of this?" She asked, getting the idea that it wouldn't be helping her much. That it was the one who caused her to end up in here.
Like she thought, the horse chuckled and sat down, watching Brie sink. She frowned and continued to squirm in her trap, causing the sticky mud to slide up her stomach. Without realizing it, she let her arms sink under the surface. Once she realized, Brie began trying to pull them free, to no avail. When seeing this, the Mudbray began to laugh at her once again.
"You know, little guy... pranks like these are not funny... they're quite dangerous..." she scolded, eliciting more laughter. Brie just frowned more, knowing it would be no help to her. During all of this, she forgot about her loyal friend behind her, trying to get her attention. The final "kip!" brought her back to Mudkip. "B-be careful, Mudkip. I don't want you falling in here too." She warned, sinking further into her trap.
Mudkip responded with a stern cry, determined to save its master. "No, Kippy. You're not strong enough to get me out on your own, just... can you go for help, please?" Brie asked, squirming against the sticky mud. Mudkip just frowned, nodded, and ran into the forest. Brie just sighed, hoping her friend could pull through for her.
Sinking to her shoulders, Brie focused her attention on the mischievous horse Pokemon that put her in this trap. "Do you really think someone in life-threatening danger is funny? I could die in here, you understand that?" She asked. The Mudbray nodded, chuckling as it did. Brie sighed. "I can't believe this. I can't believe any living creature would be that cruel..." she said, defeated.
Behind her, Mudkip had returned to the edge of the pit, with nothing following it. It let put a sad "kip..." as it looked down at its master, who was now up to her neck. "No no, Kippy... Don't blame yourself... It's okay..." Brie said, resigned to her fate. "I love you, Kippy. Thank you for being my best friend for all this time..." She said, tilting her head back to prolong her life.
Tears fell from Bree's eyes, as well as Mudkip's. Brie didn't want to die, Mudkip didn't want to lose its trainer, and they knew both were going to happen. "Go on. Get out of here..." She said. "I don't want you to see me go under... Please go tell mom what happened... I-I love both of y-" Before her face was dragged under the surface. Meanwhile, Mudkip let out a loud cry of crushing sadness and overwhelming anger. The rage and energy continued to build up inside the little creature...
Everything was silent. Brie waited in the still mud for her demise to come. However, she felt the quicksand violently shift, as if something and thrust itself into the pit. Not a moment later, Brie felt herself thrust upwards, to the surface. She was quickly pushed out onto solid ground where she laid broken and worn out.
Once she gathered the strength, she wiped the mud from her eyes as best as possible to get a look at her rescuer. What she saw drove her to tears. Standing in front of her, the one who had saved her from certain death, was a Marshtomp. The evolution of Mudkip. "K-Kippy..?" She squeaked. The light blue creature just let out a happy cry as it hugged her tight.
Meanwhile, at the other side of the pit, the Mudbray that had trapped Brie was sprawled out on the ground, drenched in a puddle of water that originated from Marshtomp's powerful water gun attack. This would serve as a lesson well learned for the little creature to never pull something like this again.
Marshtomp used its water abilities to clean Brie off. Getting to her feet, the two walked out of the dark forest hand-in-hand as they made their way back to the house. "This all started because I wanted to catch a new Pokemon. But I don't need one. You're all I need, buddy..." Brie said, her smile as wide as ever. Marshtomp chuckled and nuzzled its head against her.
Once they had gotten home, Brie explained the whole story to her mother, who was worried and then happy for her daughter and her friend. The three went on to have a wonderful vacation together. Neither of them saw that Mudbray again after that incident. Something that they were both thankful for.

Re: Pokémon Peril: Alola.
I remember reading the first story a while ago... and now I read this second one and I'm super excited. I didn't even know that Pokémon existed! Thank you for both stories!
