Notes and Disclaimers: This is my first time posting a story here in three years. It was originally written collaboratively by me and another person, as a roleplay in a Discord server, and I've adapted it into the format of a story. If the writing style has any noticeable differences from line to line, that is because the other person has a slightly different style than I do. Also, all shown characters (MarvelousAQL, Uzume, Neptune, and Nepgear) are over the age of 18. In the case of the last three, they're all goddesses ("CPUs") that, while their ages are not specified, are generally presumed to be several hundred years or more. As for MarvelousAQL, her age is not specified either, but can safely be presumed to be safe. One more thing to note, is that I personally headcanon Uzume as being an older sister to Neptune and Nepgear, and in this particular story, Chrome - who appears in the newest game, Super Neptunia RPG - as their mother. That being said, let's get into the story.

It was a late spring day in Planeptune. For the past two weeks, it'd been raining heavily almost constantly, but... today, it finally cleared up. Some areas were flooded, like low-lying farmfields, but in other places, all that happened was the ground getting extremely saturated. This particular morning, Uzume and MarvelousAQL are hanging out at the Basilicom.
“I’m so happy the weather has finally cleared up, Uzume. The rain was nice, but it went on for a kinda ridiculous amount of time,” Marvy smiles, and looks out into the sunny sky.
Uzume sighs. "Yeah... I'm glad it cleared up, too. I kinda wanna go out and look at things... see if anything's drying out yet..."
“Mind if I come with you? It’s been so long since I’ve been able to take a walk in peace~”
"That'd be fine with me~ Ah, I wish Nepsy and Gearsy weren't over in Lowee, they could join us... but, it's fine with just the two of us."
“Mhm, that’s right. We can invite them next time we go walking. It’ll be lots of fun with just the two of us though!”
"Yeah, it will! Anyway... I was thinking just heading out to Virtua Forest, like usual. It's kinda close, and I think all the monsters have cleared out for a few weeks at least..."
“That sounds good to me. It’s a close and familiar place, so we pretty much know everything we will need to about it. And, we can take on any monsters if they show up anyways, but I think you’re right that they’re gone~"
"Right... here we go." At the last second, Uzume decides to grab her phone and a spare pair of boots. "Just... in case." She also grabs an identical pair, and hands them to MarvelousAQL, who puts them on.
"Alright, let’s get going then!" Marvy begins to walk side by side with Uzume. She wasn't carrying much on her, as Uzume had most of the things they could potentially need on a perfectly normal walk.
It only takes them about half an hour to get there. At the end of the paved section of the trail into Virtua Forest, there's something... ominous. A couple of temporary poles, on either side of the path, with a warning ribbon strung across. Stapled to the ribbon is a handwritten warning on paper: "WARNING: Trail may be extremely muddy. Proceed at your own risk."
"Well, I guess I'm putting these on after all." Uzume swaps into her boots. They were rubber, just short of knee high, and bright orange. "I actually haven't worn these before... they feel kinda comfy."
“Mhm, I thought this would happen, so I have mine on already. Good thing people got to put out warning signs for others. Let’s be cautious though.”
Marvy jumps over the warning sign, and lands on the other side perfectly.
“Ready whenever you are, Uzume.”
Uzume carefully steps around the warning, and takes a step off the end of the paved trail. The sole of her boot sinks in, but it doesn't go any further yet.
"...If this is all the mud they're talking about, this is a piece of cake."
"Yeah, it isn’t too bad. We can make it easily. The warning sign is nice and all, but it seems a bit unnecessary for such a small amount.” Uzume decides to continue onwards, and for about the next two or three miles, the ground stays about the same. Ankle deep mud that cakes to their boots a lot, so every few steps they have to stop and shake it off. However... three miles in, they reach a clearing with darkened ground in the middle. Marvelous looks around, and doesn’t think very much of the clearing, thinking it is just like the other parts of the trail. She keeps on walking, not giving anything a second thought.
“It’s been a very nice walk so far Uzume. I have enjoyed this a lot. The mud can be a struggle, but it’s fine~”
"It... yeah, exactly. I'm enjoying this- WOAH!" At the edge of the darkened spot, Uzume's right boot suddenly sinks in to just below its rim, only an inch or so of it showing above the surface. Unable to react quickly enough, her left boot follows suit, and she finds herself stuck. "...Well, shit."
“A-are you okay Uzume? Can you get out?” Marvy tries to take Uzume’s hand to help her get out, but she accidentally stumbles forward and steps into the mud right next to Uzume. “Oh no... I’m sorry about this Uzume...”
"....Ugh..." Uzume tries to transform, but all she gets is an error message, in Histoire's voice... "Unable to activate HDD while any part of your body is in the mud. This is because the expansion of your chest may press too hard on the mud, and crush your internals." "...damnit."
“Hmm...” Marvelous tries to do a special high jump that she learned very recently, but it doesn’t work, and she doesn’t get upward momentum at all. “I can’t jump out either... looks like we are stuck for now.”
"...Actually... it seems to be... worse than that. As in... we're actually sinking deeper..."
“H-huh? We are?!”
Marvy looks down, and notices that her boots are even deeper than before. As for Uzume's.... well, the rims were going under, and her boots were starting to fill with mud.
"O-oh geez.... th-this feels disgusting.... slimy and cold..." She shivers. Marvy puts her arms under Uzume’s arm pits, and tries to maybe pull her out so that she can run off to get help. This only increases the rate at which she is sinking, and she lets out a sigh as she gets too tired to continue.
“Sorry... I couldn’t help you. I agree, t-this doesn’t feel good in my boots...”
To make matters worse, their struggles seemed to only make them sink faster. Uzume sighs. "...This is bad... I've never had to get out of this stuff before, and I wish I'd had some practice before finding myself in a potentially life-threatening situation..."
“I’ll have to train more for this... but for now we need to find a way out... can we maybe call someone or something?” Marvy’s feet are completely covered in mud now, and her ability to do anything to help is severely decreasing.
"...I brought my phone..." Uzume gets her phone out, but there's no signal. "...but I just realized the cell towers around this part of Planeptune are out of service because of power outages the flooding brought on... ugh, this certainly wasn't how I envisioned my day going... the both of us being stuck in mud up to our knees and... still sinking deeper..."
“Mhm, but let’s try to stay calm and positive. We most likely won’t be going too much further, right? I mean, that wouldn’t be something that could happen, huh?” Marvy is doing her best to stay positive in this situation as she keeps on sinking, and shivers from the mud that is slowly overcoming her knees.
Uzume takes a moment to think. This mud... couldn't be much deeper right? But... then it hits her. "...I just realized... something.... really, really bad... A couple days ago, a couple of girls in one of Planeptune's universities went missing around here... and... all that was ever found of them was one of the girls' phones, which they found half buried at the edge of the clearing, like it'd been thrown clear or something...."
Uzume starts to panic, although not much can be discerned from her movements and voice.
"...Putting it mildly, we're in serious trouble...."
Marvy’s nervous smile soon fades as she begins to panic slightly, but tries not to move too much. She then looks around, trying to find anything at all that she can use to help them, but can’t seem to find anything.
“T-this can’t be the end... I really hope those girls didn’t... please stay calm, Uzume...”
"You... you bet I'm not going to give up.... until my final breath, if it comes to that... Maybe we'll get lucky and... and Nepsy or somebody will stumble upon us.... before it's too late..."
“Yeah, I bet so! We aren’t gonna give up until the very end!”
Marvy's legs are now completely covered, and she looks around more for something, anything at all, but there's nothing. As the mud reaches her crotch, Uzume involuntarily lets out a soft moan, as it soaks through her skirt.
"A-ah.... it's touching places I could do without being touched right n-now.... focus, Uzume, focus...." She pushes away the slight feelings of arousal this was generating, looking around frantically for something. "It's not like me to call out for help...."
Marvy blushes extremely red, and tries to hold in her moan as it soaks into her panties too. She gets aroused as well, and tries to think of something.
“I-If you want me to, I can try to call for help. I don’t ever do it, but I can try now if needed. I don’t want to be touched like this now...”
Uzume takes a deep breath, and warms up her voice for a few seconds, then shouts... "
Hey, somebody come help us! We're stuck back here, and keep sinking deeper by the minute!" She shouts this as loud as she can... but there's no response. "....oh... oh no.... ...no, Uzume... keep... keep your head held high...."
Marvy clears her throat, and lets out in a loud voice
“Helllooooo?! Anyone out there?! We are stuck in the mud!”
Marvy tries to think very hard for a second, and gets an idea
“Uzume, did you bring your megaphone?”
"....fuck. No... I didn't. I left it at the Basilicom because I wasn't expecting to be in any danger..."
“Oh... well I didn’t bring any of my gear... I should have thought about it...”
Marvy hugs Uzume the best she can, even though she is a little far away, but soon lets go so they won’t fall over. Uzume hugs back, then sighs... Both of them were nearly up to their chests in the mud. To try and lighten the mood, Uzume suggests something.
"Heh, maybe... maybe your breasts will make a good floatation device...... man, I wish physics worked that way."
“Hehe, maybe so... wait a minute... breasts! That’s it!” Marvy does her best to reach in her chest, and pulls out a small firecracker
“Okay, all we need to do is light this, and it’ll fly up in the sky. Someone is bound to notice it!”
She keeps on sinking, and tries to rub her hands together to maybe heat them up. As bad luck would have it, though, from their struggling, they were sweaty enough that the firecracker had gotten damp in Marvy's cleavage, and wouldn't work.
“Dang it...this was my only one... HIYAH!”
Marvy does her best to throw it as far as she can, and lets out a deep sigh.
"...ugh... Marvsy, as... as much as I'm trying to stay determined, I'm... honestly starting to lose hope that we're going to make out of this alive."
“I believe in us... but, Uzume... I’m sorry I dragged you into this... if I knew, I would have at least brought more safety equipment.”
Uzume looks up into Marvy's eyes. "...Marvsy... I want you to know... in the... likely event that we don't make it out of here... I want you to know... being friends with you has been an absolute blast... and... while I don't want to go... maybe my streak of good luck has finally run out."
Marvy meets her gaze, and she blushes as she does her best to hug Uzume, but her chest is mostly covered now
“Uzu... you’re one of the best friends I could have ever asked for... thank you so much for everything... I hope that we make it out of this alive, but if we don’t... I want you to know... my time with you is irreplaceable...” The mud was now cupping their cleavage, but unfortunately, the floatation device theory isn't true, and they keep sinking. In a last ditch effort, Uzume tries pushing on the surface of the mud with her hands to lift herself up... but all that accomplishes is getting her arms stuck too. Marvy then tries to claw her way to where they were before, but she completely fails at this, and she gets too tired to move her arms, so she rests them on the surface of the mud as they slowly sink with her.
"...Well... this is it, huh?" In their struggles, they were now up to their shoulders, and showed no signs of stopping. "After several decades, death finally caught up with me..."
Marvy couldn’t move anything except for her head, and she just stares at Uzume in the eyes
“I’m sorry that this is the end... if I just thought to be more cautious, none of this would have happened.”
"...It's my fault, too... for not realizing where we were.... damnit.... I just... I just wanna see Nepsy and Gearsy again, just one more time.... maybe one day, they'll get to join us in the afterlife..."
“I-I wish I could have lived a little longer... but I guess I was destined to die somehow. I wish so too...” Marvy clears her throat in one last time in desperation. “NEPTUNE! NEPGEAR! HEEEELLLLLP!"
...There's a slight pulse of energy in the distance, like somebody transforming? Or... maybe it was just the wind.
“Well... we did what we could... I guess I’ll see you soon, Uzu.”
Marvy holds her breath, and, despite her best efforts, sinks under. Starting to tear up, Uzume manages a quick "goodbye..." before she goes completely under, also holding her breath... Soon, a burst of wind comes from afar, but the two are too far under to see. They then begin to feel someone tugging at them, trying to pull them up as their breath begins to run out. Uzume feels her consciousness starting to go dark, and the rest of her body getting cold... and right as she was about to pass out from a lack of oxygen, she feels a hand desperately reaching for hers from above. Weakly, she manages to move her hand to a spot where this person could grab on, before she blacks out entirely. Meanwhile, above the surface...
"Come on, Neptune! Pull as hard as you can! We can still save them!"
“I’m trying! Keep pulling, Nep Jr.! I almost have Marvy’s head out!”
Neptune pulls as hard as she can to help Marvy get out of the mud pit, and finally Marvy is able to breathe once again. Nepgear does the same in trying to help Uzume. Nepgear also manages to get Uzume out of the pit... but the battle to save her is nowhere near over yet. Uzume still isn't breathing. "...c-come on, sis.... hang in there!"
Neptune flies over to where Uzume is, and places Marvy on a patch of grass where she is gasping for air. Neptune then goes over to Uzume, and holds her hand.
“W-what do we do? Why isn’t she breathing at all?”
"She must've wound up breathing in some mud involuntarily... we need to get her to a hospital immediately!"
Nepgear wipes the mud off Uzume's face. It's concerningly pale. Neptune picks up Marvelous, and uses an Eject Button to quickly warp out of the forest with everybody else. She then flies as fast as she can with Nepgear to the nearest hospital.
Arriving at the hospital, everything seems to be going in slow motion, as Uzume is quickly put on a stretcher and taken to the emergency room. She gets put on a respirator. "Come on, Uzume... please...." ....A few minutes pass.... Uzume still has a heartbeat, but it's growing faint.
Marvy sits down on a towel on a chair, trying not to get things too dirty, and tries to regain her breath from all of this. Her heart races quickly as she thinks about the condition she is in. Meanwhile, Neptune is trying not to panic. "Please... please be okay..."
Another minute passes. Nepgear is starting to get a rather dejected look on her face... as she starts to accept the fact that Uzume might really be gone, for good this time.
"...Uzume.... p... p-please.... wake up...."
Marvy gets up, and begins to slowly walk towards Uzume, lying next to her slowly. "P-Please... we managed to get out... please keep fighting... to the final breath like you said you would..." ...Still, silence, save for the faint beeping of the heart monitor, and the gentle hissing sound of the respirator. All seems lost........
....until suddenly, Uzume starts coughing up mud, violently. One of the doctors quickly takes the respirator off, to let Uzume get the mud out of her system.
“U-Uzu! Hang in there! Let it all out!” Marvy steps back and watches.
Over the next few minutes, she manages to expel the rest of the mud on to a towel that had been laid on her lap... and then, she opens her eyes. The first thing she sees is Nepgear, looking worriedly into her eyes.
"....Where... where am I? Marvsy.... o-oh, Nepsy, Gearsy..... did you two wind up... following in our footsteps...?"
"...No, Uzume... you're alive."
"Wh... what? No, that... that can't be.... that's gotta be impossible..."
"It's... it's not. It was a hard fought battle, but... you really are alive."
Marvy goes to Uzume, and hugs her tightly, crying immensely. “U-Uzu! I was so worried I lost you, and it would’ve been all my fault!”
Neptune comforts her. “There there Marvy... we are so happy you made it out of there... if we were a few seconds later... but that doesn’t matter now, you’re both alive... and very dirty too!”
"...I... I can hardly believe it.... S-Somehow, I... we... but... how..."
"We knew you wouldn't let yourself go down without a fight. That's why we never gave up on you, even when... even when it truly seemed like you were about to die..."
"...Between when I blacked out in the mud, and when I woke up... I... I saw my.... our... mother again... Chrome... she... she was.... standing beside... a door of light... like she was.... she was waiting for me.... b-but when I tried going through, she stopped me.... and said.... it wasn't... wasn't my time to go...."
“It’s a good thing we heard the yell in time... it isn’t your time yet, both of you... we all have very long lives to live, so let’s do what we can to live long lives.” Marvy and Neptune both hug Uzume and Nepgear, holding them closely. Both of them hug back tight.
"...Agreed... and when our time eventually does come.... we'll be together."
"Together to the end... That's something we can all strive for."
“That’s right. I won’t let any of us go down without a fight though.”
“That’s right. Let’s do our best to keep it that way!”

Well, there you have it. I'm sorry if parts of it sound clunky, or if anything dragged on too long- like I said, this was a roleplay that got adapted into a story. I really don't have anything more to say about it, other than I hope you enjoyed reading it.

Marvy does her best to throw it as far as she can, and lets out a deep sigh.
"...ugh... Marvsy, as... as much as I'm trying to stay determined, I'm... honestly starting to lose hope that we're going to make out of this alive."
“I believe in us... but, Uzume... I’m sorry I dragged you into this... if I knew, I would have at least brought more safety equipment.”
Uzume looks up into Marvy's eyes. "...Marvsy... I want you to know... in the... likely event that we don't make it out of here... I want you to know... being friends with you has been an absolute blast... and... while I don't want to go... maybe my streak of good luck has finally run out."
Marvy meets her gaze, and she blushes as she does her best to hug Uzume, but her chest is mostly covered now
“Uzu... you’re one of the best friends I could have ever asked for... thank you so much for everything... I hope that we make it out of this alive, but if we don’t... I want you to know... my time with you is irreplaceable...” The mud was now cupping their cleavage, but unfortunately, the floatation device theory isn't true, and they keep sinking. In a last ditch effort, Uzume tries pushing on the surface of the mud with her hands to lift herself up... but all that accomplishes is getting her arms stuck too. Marvy then tries to claw her way to where they were before, but she completely fails at this, and she gets too tired to move her arms, so she rests them on the surface of the mud as they slowly sink with her.
"...Well... this is it, huh?" In their struggles, they were now up to their shoulders, and showed no signs of stopping. "After several decades, death finally caught up with me..."
Marvy couldn’t move anything except for her head, and she just stares at Uzume in the eyes
“I’m sorry that this is the end... if I just thought to be more cautious, none of this would have happened.”
"...It's my fault, too... for not realizing where we were.... damnit.... I just... I just wanna see Nepsy and Gearsy again, just one more time.... maybe one day, they'll get to join us in the afterlife..."
“I-I wish I could have lived a little longer... but I guess I was destined to die somehow. I wish so too...” Marvy clears her throat in one last time in desperation. “NEPTUNE! NEPGEAR! HEEEELLLLLP!"
...There's a slight pulse of energy in the distance, like somebody transforming? Or... maybe it was just the wind.
“Well... we did what we could... I guess I’ll see you soon, Uzu.”
Marvy holds her breath, and, despite her best efforts, sinks under. Starting to tear up, Uzume manages a quick "goodbye..." before she goes completely under, also holding her breath... Soon, a burst of wind comes from afar, but the two are too far under to see. They then begin to feel someone tugging at them, trying to pull them up as their breath begins to run out. Uzume feels her consciousness starting to go dark, and the rest of her body getting cold... and right as she was about to pass out from a lack of oxygen, she feels a hand desperately reaching for hers from above. Weakly, she manages to move her hand to a spot where this person could grab on, before she blacks out entirely. Meanwhile, above the surface...
"Come on, Neptune! Pull as hard as you can! We can still save them!"
“I’m trying! Keep pulling, Nep Jr.! I almost have Marvy’s head out!”
Neptune pulls as hard as she can to help Marvy get out of the mud pit, and finally Marvy is able to breathe once again. Nepgear does the same in trying to help Uzume. Nepgear also manages to get Uzume out of the pit... but the battle to save her is nowhere near over yet. Uzume still isn't breathing. "...c-come on, sis.... hang in there!"
Neptune flies over to where Uzume is, and places Marvy on a patch of grass where she is gasping for air. Neptune then goes over to Uzume, and holds her hand.
“W-what do we do? Why isn’t she breathing at all?”
"She must've wound up breathing in some mud involuntarily... we need to get her to a hospital immediately!"
Nepgear wipes the mud off Uzume's face. It's concerningly pale. Neptune picks up Marvelous, and uses an Eject Button to quickly warp out of the forest with everybody else. She then flies as fast as she can with Nepgear to the nearest hospital.
Arriving at the hospital, everything seems to be going in slow motion, as Uzume is quickly put on a stretcher and taken to the emergency room. She gets put on a respirator. "Come on, Uzume... please...." ....A few minutes pass.... Uzume still has a heartbeat, but it's growing faint.
Marvy sits down on a towel on a chair, trying not to get things too dirty, and tries to regain her breath from all of this. Her heart races quickly as she thinks about the condition she is in. Meanwhile, Neptune is trying not to panic. "Please... please be okay..."
Another minute passes. Nepgear is starting to get a rather dejected look on her face... as she starts to accept the fact that Uzume might really be gone, for good this time.
"...Uzume.... p... p-please.... wake up...."
Marvy gets up, and begins to slowly walk towards Uzume, lying next to her slowly. "P-Please... we managed to get out... please keep fighting... to the final breath like you said you would..." ...Still, silence, save for the faint beeping of the heart monitor, and the gentle hissing sound of the respirator. All seems lost........
....until suddenly, Uzume starts coughing up mud, violently. One of the doctors quickly takes the respirator off, to let Uzume get the mud out of her system.
“U-Uzu! Hang in there! Let it all out!” Marvy steps back and watches.
Over the next few minutes, she manages to expel the rest of the mud on to a towel that had been laid on her lap... and then, she opens her eyes. The first thing she sees is Nepgear, looking worriedly into her eyes.
"....Where... where am I? Marvsy.... o-oh, Nepsy, Gearsy..... did you two wind up... following in our footsteps...?"
"...No, Uzume... you're alive."
"Wh... what? No, that... that can't be.... that's gotta be impossible..."
"It's... it's not. It was a hard fought battle, but... you really are alive."
Marvy goes to Uzume, and hugs her tightly, crying immensely. “U-Uzu! I was so worried I lost you, and it would’ve been all my fault!”
Neptune comforts her. “There there Marvy... we are so happy you made it out of there... if we were a few seconds later... but that doesn’t matter now, you’re both alive... and very dirty too!”
"...I... I can hardly believe it.... S-Somehow, I... we... but... how..."
"We knew you wouldn't let yourself go down without a fight. That's why we never gave up on you, even when... even when it truly seemed like you were about to die..."
"...Between when I blacked out in the mud, and when I woke up... I... I saw my.... our... mother again... Chrome... she... she was.... standing beside... a door of light... like she was.... she was waiting for me.... b-but when I tried going through, she stopped me.... and said.... it wasn't... wasn't my time to go...."
“It’s a good thing we heard the yell in time... it isn’t your time yet, both of you... we all have very long lives to live, so let’s do what we can to live long lives.” Marvy and Neptune both hug Uzume and Nepgear, holding them closely. Both of them hug back tight.
"...Agreed... and when our time eventually does come.... we'll be together."
"Together to the end... That's something we can all strive for."
“That’s right. I won’t let any of us go down without a fight though.”
“That’s right. Let’s do our best to keep it that way!”

Well, there you have it. I'm sorry if parts of it sound clunky, or if anything dragged on too long- like I said, this was a roleplay that got adapted into a story. I really don't have anything more to say about it, other than I hope you enjoyed reading it.
