Ok, now I'm worried, she thought, as she tugged her cutoffs up as much as she could. She had heard of this kind of substance ...suckmud, or suckmuck, some called it. You didn't just sink; it pulled at you, actively sucks you into itself.
Jeanine had read of several accounts from survivors...unlike quicksand, where you want to be still, struggling helped slow the pull, but never stopped it. Several sinkers also recalled having their clothes tugged down off their body as the muck reached them, getting bunched up and tangled around their ankles, further impeding their self rescue.
This poor girl was strong enough to hold her shorts in place, but now one if not both hands were occupied; she couldn't reach for assistance.
She had a choice to make, the protection of sensitive body parts from the sucking and caressing of the smooth mud, or making herself vulnerable and hoping a branch or something could be grasped. More and more it looked like she wouldn't be winning this battle, as more of her lush body vanished underneath...
