To the animators here

Postby Fred588 » Wed Oct 27, 2021 2:46 am

I don't know if this is practical, or even possible, but I'd like to put it out there as a request if it is both. I would like to do a scene in which the principal character makes use of a mud pit on an orbiting space station or starship of some kind. The mud pit is in a "room" that has a window looking out into space. During filming the window would actually be a blue screen. The need is for footage of what is outside. My thinking is that what is outside is another space station or starship. That object itself has no particular description except to look like a real object. I guess it should be complex so as to appear very large. It does need to have some motion so as to give it life and it needs to be rendered in 4k.

I suspect what I am asking about is either trivially easy or not possible at all. I have little knowledge of animation software. Replies will be welcome, either here or directly to Fred588@gmail.com.

This reply to my own original post is to provide an update. Two people have responded directly and attempted to do something, but it appears neither has succeeded. Therefore, I will go to an alternative that could be done, I think, using 3D animation but which I can also do with direct filming. Rather than having a space station or starship outside the window, there can be an asteroid. The asteroid need not be entirely seen (that is to say some of it can be out of frame) so it could be done by simply shooting video of a fair-sized boulder against a green screen. The camera itself can be moved gently, and some realism can be added by placing some communications antennae or mining equipment on the boulder. The lighting will be monodirectional and very harsh. Of course, if any animator here wants to have a go at a space station or other suitable object there i no law that says only one scene can be filmed.
