convert mts to high quality other format

Postby maria » Tue Oct 31, 2017 12:36 am

Hi
Can anyone point me in the right direction to get a video converter to change .mts files to mpg but with the original or similar high quality output retained in the output file.

A freeware version with no ads etc would be useful.

Thanks in advance,

Maria

I've had a lot of luck with Any Video Converter.

Thanks qsvitguy. I downloaded the program and giving it a try now.

Does anyone know what output file format produces the nearest hq video as the original mts file? There are lots to choose from. I want to edit the final file with streamclip.

I would suggest using mpeg4, and set the bit rate to the highest you find practical to use. The higher the bit rate the less compression needed, but the bigger the files produced.

Thanks Fred for the technical advice. I am having some success I think! It's all a bit tricky.

I am glad to hear that. Early on I found that the power of one's computer made a huge difference with everything involving video. A computer I had back around 2005 could run my editing software, for example, but it was so slow as to be close to useless. Video files can be humongus and certain things one might do in rendering a scene (such as doing a picture in picture) takes a LOT of computing power.

Fred - you are very helpful. The video thing is interesting because not everyone is a guru when it comes to computers and software. BUT, I'm sure there are many like-minded people such as on this forum who enjoy a personal sink and filming the situation - only to find they can't do much with their "film footage". It would be great to see more of the public putting themselves out in the quicksand so to speak! ;)

I should mention that Youtube accepts files in .mts format, and automatically converts them to its formats, including .mp4! 8-)
I sink, therefore I WAM!!!!
