Download Problem

Postby mud_boi » Sun Apr 26, 2009 12:39 am

Everytime I try to download a video clip from the board, it times out and stops about halfway in. How can I stop this from happening so I can get the whole video?

HELP!

Both the "Beginning Of Summer" and "My First Videos" from the Contributions section

How fast is your connection? Both of these files have been downloaded over one hundred times, and they come down very quickly on mine. How long does it take to get to the "timeout" when you try to download them? Minutes? Seconds?

There are a lot of variables and possibilities here but obviously many have downloaded them without trouble. This would make me think the problem is on your end. You need to be as specific as possible about your connection speed, operating system, etc. if anyone is going to help. Are you downloading directly to disk or trying to view them as you download?
It's a dirty job but I got to do it for over 20 years. Thank you.

I'm on Windows XP Home edition, dial-up (don't laugh lol) and I'm saving them directly to my computer. I usually only get about 2 or 3 MB of the clip, and when I try to play it back on Windows Media Player, it plays about 10 seconds, and then says the file is corrupted. I tried using MegaDownload Manager also, but I get the same results.

Dialup is going to be the issue here. I'm betting it takes more than five minutes to download the file, which was the time limit set for php to process data. I've updated that setting -- see if it works now.

I don't know what to tell ya', man... everything on this end is working fine. If you're using a download manager that allows for resumes, and it's still not coming down properly, you probably have some kind of issue on your end. What that could be is anyone's guess.

One thing to try is to see if it always stops at the same point. If so, your browser may be trying to download a damaged version from a cache somewhere. If this is happening, empty the cache and try again. Or, force a direct download. What may have happened is some sort of glitch interupted the download on the first attempt but left the damaged, partial file in your cache.
