How to quote a post without posting a full URL

Hello:

Can one help educate me regarding the technique I should use to quote a post within the forum, without posting the full URL?

I thought I knew how to do this at one point, but it seems I overwrote that part of my mental hard drive with something else.

If i understand you correctly;

Click on the quote button when you're on the post that you want to quote. Copy the stuff that appears in the composition window (which will include the BB code). Then, go to the discussion you want the quote to appear in. Hit reply (or open a new topic if needed) and paste the previous text into the post. As a courtesy, it's probably best to also link back to the topic you got the quote from (which will require a separate copy and paste). I usually open a duplicate browser tab when I need to go back and forth with the copying and pasting.

I see what this does, but I don't think I requested this correctly. What I actually am trying to find out is how I can post a reference to a post in the forum without having to post the full URL. For example, you will post the a link that starts with "viewtopic" while the best I am able to do is post a full, absolute reference, with the hypertext callout ("http...") at the beginning of the URL. Am I making sense (I ask with all sincerity, as sometimes I just do not make any sense at all)?

The above was done by copying just the relevant portion of the URL from the browser's address box and pasting it into the reply. I will now test it to see if it works.

It did not.

If you post the full url WITHOUT the "url" (or "url_new") and "/url" (or "/url_new") square bracket bbcode tags, you will get what you are looking for:

viewtopic.php?f=20&t=22809
