Polls not working for me

Postby MuddyEddie » Thu May 05, 2011 4:21 pm

I've tried answering a couple different polls, using both Firefox 4 and IE 9. I get the same response: "The submitted form was invalid. Try submitting again".

Any ideas?

All of them! Every poll I've tried gives me the same response. I even tried it on my laptop (XP vs. Vista) and it did the same thing.

Hrm... sounds like you have an old version (pre-update) of the viewpoll template kicking around. Every poll I try is working flawlessly, but I have my browsers set to clear their cache on exit. Have you tried flushing yours?

Watch your language! LOL!

I have my cache in both IE and FF set to clear upon closing. All private data is wiped when the browser closes.

And it's doing it on more than one computer. Are the polls set up to look at IP addresses for any reason?

For giggles and grins I just tried it with Safari, same thing!

This has to be an IP issue of some kind.

There's nothing which checks the IP in that mechanism. It's not even stored with the poll results.

You're somehow sending a malformed form_submit request. I've only ever seen this happen when there's an old copy of the html templates floating around between the user and the server. Are you behind a proxy? Can you hook up at a buddy's house or hotspot to check, just for fun?

I'll tether to my phone today and give it a try.

I'm not behind a proxy at my house, but I'm not sure exactly how my ISP route works. I'm on a wireless (Motorola Canopy) system that links me to the local tower. From there it links to the regional hub, then heads to the main hub. So there's a possibility that they're doing something funky with the packets on the route.

Well, I'm stumped! I tried it on the network at my office (direct DSL line). It still doesn't work! So I looked at what I have that's common between the two computers, and the only thing is my VPN client. So I uninstalled that. It still doesn't work!

It's strange that three different browsers (IE 9, FF 4, Safari) all have the same problems, and on two different computers on two different networks! And the Safari was a fresh install, so it couldn't be a cache issue.

I even thought about an anti-virus issue, but my computer at home is running Windows Security Essentials, and my laptop runs AVG. And they are two different OS as well (Vista Pro at home, and XP Pro on the laptop).

This is the brain scratcher of the month!

Internet hates you!

Confess, what wrong have you done to the Hypertext Transfer Protocol?
