Troubles with playing Hi Def vids

Running into strange problems with playback o some of the videos lately, and wonder if I need to upgrade my video players.

Not naming producers, but on some recent "Hi_Def" videos I've downloaded recently, I find they either stutter on RealPlayer... picture looks great, but it seems to stop every few frames to pause for a bit, or, if I switch to my VLC player, sounds and frame rate are bang on, but I get a weird image effect which makes it look like I'm viewing the scene through a shimmering screen door... as in, the pixels are more visible than they should be.

I'm wondering what players and versions others use to take the best advantage of the hi-def while not sacrificing picture, sound and video playback. Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions... :D

Your symptoms sound as if the bit rate the video is rendered in might be a bit too much for your computer, or for the player involved. VLC definitely is the fastest I have seen. Your provider can probably re-render the scene at a slower bit rate on request, although it might take a few days. A few things to try would be to make sure the computer is healthy and shut down anyting running in the background. Also, make sure the DVD player is healthy.

A little more information might be instructive here. If your VLC player is a new version then perhaps it lacks something the old one had. If it works with older videos but not with something new, then perhaps the vendow has changed some setting, or codec, that your VLC cannot handle. Do you have other things running in the background? If so, that could be overwhelming your system.

I too have seen this happen with VLC, but it's rare. It's gives some sort of messsage like it has to "rebuild" itself or something (not to be confused with the ".avi. file needs to be repaired" message it gives a lot.) It's not your specs. It's some flaw in VLC i believe. I;'m sure it will be ironed out with future releases of it,.
