Well, that was disappointing. The scene is her looking at a patch of quicksand, then a cut to two gents discussing how unfortunate it was that she is gone.

Stay with it. The way I see the casting she is scheduled to appear in later episodes. Possibly her fate will be covered in greater detail later.
It's a dirty job but I got to do it for 27 years. Thank you.

In reply to the question about which Jane McGrath, this one:

In reply to the comment regarding disappointment in her just looking at the quicksand, I do not know which episode you watched but note that the IMdB page shows her appearing in episodes 1,2, and 4.

It was episode 2 - I did see that she is due to appear again in episode 4, so will tune in again on Thursday, though I'm not holding my breath.

In the earlier version of the Moonstone she is also seen looking at the quicksands near the beginning and then sinking later.

Distantly related to my other thread about early manuscripts, the book this movie is based on, The moonstone by Wilkie Collins, hass been frequently credited with being the first detective mystery novel.

Re: new version with a bog scene?
In the original story there is no actual quicksand scene, the other characters realise that she must have sunk herself in the quicksand. Much like how in Hound of the Baskervilles, Holmes and Watson never actually see the villain die in the Grimpen Mire, they merely realise that it must have been his fate.
The old BBC version made it more dramatic by having them arriving at just the right moment to see her sink. Same as how many movie and TV adaptations of Baskervilles depict the villain's death in the mire. But it appears this new version stays true to the original novel.
Of course it's possible they might show the scene itself as a flashback in a later episode. On the other hand, they're showing this in the afternoon and its intended to be suitable for children to watch, so they might reckon actually depicting her death in quicksand might be a bit too disturbing, and unnecessary since it isn't even in the book.
