Well that’s why the quicksand in tidal mudflats is so dangerous.

This scene raises a question in my mind. How do you survive if you stumble into quicksand that is under water? You can't exactly lay on your back and slowly pull your legs out. And if the water is only 3 feet deep but the quicksand is 4 feet deep, you're in trouble. How do you escape from this particular peril?

Thanks,

Bob St.

'Cause you are not getting out alive on your own. Drowning in water or dying of thirst and/or exposure/hypothermia is how quicksand really kills.

The only way to escape the quicksand is with the power of friends. Haha.

Yeah, quicksand is more dangerous in tidal areas then let’s say a forest, obviously because of the rising tides. And when more water mixes in, I think it can actually make escape a lot harder.

Hi.

But what about when it doesn't involve a tide coming in?
There was a video by Jumpoff Joe (I think) where a young woman sank up to her waste in the mud. She got out of that, then started walking through some water. She then started sinking into the mud that was under the water. Last we saw, she was up to her shoulders in the water.
So how would someone survive that, if there's nobody around?

Interesting. Maybe the sand grains were a lot looser. I guess some types of quicksand are a lot finer and thicker then others. :)

There are a lot of variables involved.

For example, if you took half a dozen 'sinky' spots and covered them with a foot of water, some would act the same, while others would become something else completely. Water certainly complicates things in most instances though.

There was a fella some years back who died this way. From the circumstances he may have been one of our kind just trying to have some fun and got trapped.
