Oh, I can see it. When he slows down, he's getting ready for another pull-down. Note that his head tilts forward, too, upon submergence. He's definitely going under on purpose.
That bog in his sinking spot looks thin (lots of water showing). It's a pretty cool location, though. I can't help but wonder if some parts of the bog could be thicker...and that would make a good little playground for me.
