Very intense and realistic indeed.

A classic Freudian slip if ever there was one 8-)

Heh heh. Good catch, and there's some truth to the mis-statement as well ;) Lotta "stiffs" under the sand from all the centuries of sinkings there.

I'm certainly not the typo police, but the irony of that one just couldn't go unrecognized 8-)

Oh, I see! Thank you for the explanation! A pulled muscle seems reasonable, taking into account the cold water and virtually unconscious girl.

...because it looked like as if he had a heart attack, but then he was running too fast for a person having a heart attack.

Now guys, imagine such a nightmare - you got the only in life chance to rescue a girl from quicksand, and you can't rescue her because you have a pulled muscle. Even worse - you have to leave her alone and run to find some help, which in not guaranteed. And the girl has real - totally real - chance to drown under rising tide while you are running here and there. And the poor thing pleads you to stay with her but you have to leave or otherwise she has no chance at all. And all that because of damn pulled muscle... That would be a sure way from quicksand fetish to inferiority complex :(

So many different suns
And we have just one world
But we live in different ones

That was my thinking as well. I'm sure we've all fought through pain to accomplish somewhat less important tasks.
It's a dirty job but I got to do it for 27 years. Thank you.

From what I understand, what he did was more in line with what rescuers are meant to do - that is, they aren't meant to put themselves in the line of danger. Then there would be *two* casualties.

The show where a guy used a rubber raft to pull another guy out of quicksand was an episode of that Anglia TV series based on the works of PD James; I don't remember the title but I know that scene wasn't in the book (it was set on Hampstead Heath and not on the north Norfolk coast for a start!); it was Roy Marsden (as Adam Dalgleish) rescuing Jerome Flynn.
"Aaaaaarrrrrrggggghhhhh! Quicksand! I'm sinking! I'll go straight to the bottom of.......GLURP!"
(a month later)
"Ugh! Yukkkh! Ptui! I'm out of it! I'm free! Not even quicksand can defeat the power of.....the Eye of Zoltec!"

The scene was from "Children's Ward - Series 11 - Episode 4"

I posted the scene here :
