Might be a long shot, but is anyone here going to see the movie at the festival?

I would absolutely attend this festival if it was in Boston. I been shooting for a few Film festivals locally and it’s a blast. Even more so if it involves horror. Issue is at film festivals, the best anyone can do is tell you about it. They’re locked down pretty tight and do not allow any recording or phone use during the big reveals. They may still come up this way because we have a few festivals due up here over the winter.

In a few days I imagine we could see initial reactions from horror youtubers who are attending. I'm pinching myself that this movie is really coming out after feeling like vapor for so long.

Probably not. Keep in mind studios do not want you potentially spoiling anything. The whole premise of having these is to gain more distribution dollars and get interested financiers on board to push the movie to other markets. A bunch of self entitled glory seeking youtubers giving away key details of the film that hasn’t been released yet absolutely ruins that and will just encourage filmmakers not to explore that genre any further. I can just about guarantee that based off the movies in attendance, there will be strict security on the lookout for streamers and typically in those instances, they will be politely asked to leave (ask me how I know).

I never mentioned streamers. I'm not really familiar with that world, is that what the term Youtuber means now?
I just figured literally anybody can go home and make a video saying whether they recommend it. But even something like that would be taken down and the person banned from festivals? Is that how it works?

Re: The Swallow movie (2024)
this is a review that ai gemini made this morning: Reviews for The Swallow—directed by Kevin Kölsch and Dennis Widmyer (Starry Eyes, Pet Sematary)—out of its world premiere as the Closing Night film at Fantastic Fest 2026 describe it as a straightforward, fun, and delightfully gross B-movie creature feature.
The General Consensus
Critics agree that the movie delivers "exactly what it says on the tin": a simple 1980s-and-'90s-style throwback horror flick about a group of teens stuck in the woods who get picked off by a sentient, carnivorous pit of quicksand sludge. While opinions diverge slightly on whether its thin plot holds up over a feature-length runtime, it is generally praised for embracing its own absurdity and committing to pure survival thrills.
What Critics Are Praising
Outstanding Practical Gore Effects: Reviews heavily highlight the creature effects designed by Tony Gardner (The Blob). The "goopy, acidic" nature of the sludge melting limbs and consuming characters is praised for bringing effective, squelchy, practical body horror back to the big screen.
No-Nonsense Premise: Reviewers appreciate that the film doesn't waste time trying to overexplain the monster or hide behind heavy-handed metaphors. It sets up the threat quickly and jumps straight into claustrophobic survival tension.
Lead Performances: Grace Van Dien (as Ziggy) receives strong marks for anchoring the film with genuine terror and screen presence through all the blood and mud.
Tone & Atmosphere: Outlets like Signal Horizon commended the film's sharp night cinematography, vintage 1990s teen-horror vibes, and its unabashedly bleak ending.
Common Criticisms
Thin Characters & Script: Several reviews point out that the human characters are largely disposable archetypes saddled with somewhat clunky dialogue, making it hard to feel deeply invested in their personal survival outside the immediate visceral thrills.
Pacing Sags: Outlets like Bloody Disgusting noted that the middle act stretches the thin premise out a bit too long, leading to frustrating moments where characters move leisurely around a threat that is literally slow-moving mud.
Average Score
The film is generally landing around a 6.5 to 7 out of 10 range, serving as a crowd-pleasing, nostalgic mud-bath for fans of The Blob, Creepshow 2, or The Ruins. 1

Well if this is accurate I'm out, blob-like effects have no interest for me.

The 'melting limbs' thing is kinda what I was afraid of.
Nothing like some advanced knowledge to temper our expectations though. Maybe we'll get lucky and have a nice sink or two before the vore stuff kicks in. (Apologies to the Vore cross-overs here. Hehe)
