Not a big gore fan at all but I am curious to see what they did since he says there's no CGI involved. He mentioned the use of a motorcycle lift which is very interesting since that almost became a tool at MPV early on. "Spa grade" mud. Yeah... ;)

Thanks for the heads-up on this. 8-)

I seriously wonder if any of them were lurkers on here trying to skim the group for ideas. I mean, if I was producing, I would at least do that much because to your point, I do see nuanced call backs to ideas that have been presented here (I mean, the bubbles? C'mon man)

The motorcycle lift is a good idea, but pneumatics have come a long way and for 400 bucks, a 200 pound rated scissor lift with 50 inch table height would do just nicely

They posted a nice lil preview on X and it's definitely gonna be something for the vore peeps. I am still up to seeing it but obviously, people should expect that there are going to be gore elements that some folks may not be into.

HA! They posted the same clip on the X account.

I have to say, I am lowkey kinda touched that I see some newer generation folks recount "The Raft" from Creepshow 2. It gives me hope for the horror genre

The review for the 2017 script seemed to have at least one complete sink of another character prior to the digesting properties of the monster being revealed while it's taking this guy, so I'm still on board if the final cut preserves that.

This pit pretty much looks like Camp MPV clay. Worlds better than the grimy water in Quicksand (2023), alas not looking likely to dethrone that magnificent bog in Prey (2022). Prey's mud expert(s) would have been the one(s) to hire.

Yeah, so far, Prey holds the high standard as far as recent scenes go, followed by (the remarkably not so mentioned) The Marsh.

We will see, I guess. There was a guy featured in the clip so it’s my hope they stay within horror tradition and there is a decent female scene preceding it. I do wish they went with a different medium for the quicksand itself but I can understand the why’s of their choice of spa mud as it’s probably the easiest thing to work with. These guys lean towards practical effects so whatever they choose would have to work with their effect choices. *shrug*

Could the bubbles coming out of the mire behind him be from the previous victim?

I thought that, too but I dunno. This thing is supposed to be sentient so there’s that. I am wondering more on when they plan on releasing it. The window is VERY narrow for this year because after Nov, they’re competing with blockbuster film releases all Dec which leads me to think that they’re aiming towards Spring of ‘27. That’s a lot of sleeps before we get any more answers :|

Here are some audience reviews :
https://letterboxd.com/film/the-swallow-2026/

From the reviews I read, interviews with the filmmakers, the new clip, and what I remember from the original 2017 script, this movie is pretty much a higher budgeted Quicksand/Mud Puddle Visuals video with 5 actors (or more?) stretched out to 82 minutes, with your obligatory gore moments for the horror audience. The structure is the same with the basic setup of the characters at the start, then the sinking deaths one by one, the sinking scenes of each one are drawn out, the characters with simple traits, the cheesy dialogue, the comedically stupid logic of the characters. It works great for our audience at a 20 minute duration per clip, but I can't imagine how it feels to a normal horror audience at 82 minutes.

Feels bizarre to me that they say that they never knew about this whole quicksand scene. Maybe they didn't want to be associated with the fetish side, but it just feels weird to me that this looks like a feature-length MPV production with gory kills to justify the horror that would otherwise seem silly to horror nerds. Not saying it's bad, it's just surreal that this movie exists in the way that it does.

Bizarre to us, yea.

But even if they became aware of the kink along the way, it would be prudent at that point to decide to not entertain questions about it. The solution; get well ahead of the issue and (plausibly) deny knowing that there's a sexual connection out there.

Pretty accurate

It’s gonna be a weird one for theaters for sure. I honestly don’t see this doing well in the box office just because we can count on all these characters having the acting chops of a sophomore drama student. To your point, it looks just like a bunch of randos stumbling into mud (that clearly looks nothing like the surrounding environment) and going under.

Again, accurate.

My guess even if they did stumble across this place and others like it in their research, they wanted to put as much distance between us and them as possible. What was slightly telling of this was in the interview I posted, They asked Grace what did the mud feel like and her response was just “mud” as if saying anything more would draw the wrong conclusions.

My guess is they were certainly aware of this community and stumbled across it in their research (which honestly is hard to believe they didn’t), and they do not want parallels drawn between the fetish and this film, which I get it. Just comes off weird when you literally tear pages out of the books of people who did the research so you can pop it in your movie without saying a word of credit to them, ya know? But again, I get it

Oh they definitely did. It’s impossible not to. I did a general search on google a few times during my own research and this forum comes up within the first 3-4 results. It’s why I have a suspicion that they’re lurkers here. Just too many similarities between MPV’s work and what we saw in the preview clip.

Any specific parallels drawn will be dismissed as coincidence and any knowledge of this being a kink will certainly be met with “Derp, it’s a fetish? We had no idea!”
