I made a small demo of a sinking simulator in code.org game lab. It's fairly dumbed down javascript made with block coding, mostly intended for use in schools and such. Feel free to try it if you'd like. Any feedback is appreciated too, I put about 2 hours of work into making it, with most of it being testing. https://studio.code.org/projects/gamela ... uasu_BeTWk I believe it should work on mobile as well, though I'm not sure about it because I didn't try it myself. Edit: it works on mobile but there's no control inputs.

There should now be a mobile gamepad and I've also added a way to change the theme of the world. the majority of what I did was just add more sprites, even if they're mostly just recolors of the previous ones. The same link to the game will also still work, I just hope nobody used the link while I was in the process of adding more stuff because it would've been unfinished.

Heh, certainly not bad for a couple of hours' work! The animtion of her raising her arms, the two different sinking speeds, and the ability to change the scenery are all nice details. (Interesting that for the space one the quicksand becomes pools of green slime!)

Thank you very much for your feedback! Also the the third area is actually a cave and not space. I like cave slime and there just isn't enough of it out on the web. Maybe it was the background that made it look like space, but even if that was the case I'd have stars in the sky.

There's an upcoming indie game called Photogeist. A Retro monster photography game

These gameplay video of a swamp seem to show promise of mud pits at least:

The demo is supposed to be out on January 12.

Even if the swamp parts are not in the demo, I still hop the full game has and don't disappoint in the future...

https://studio.code.org/projects/gamela ... uasu_BeTWk I've now made quite a big update to the game. There's now a total of 5 area themes, a semi-functional jump button, and a walking animation. I'd avoid walking too far to the left of right because the screen will melt, but it will go back to normal if you return to the center. I've also fixed the issue where touching the side of the ground while sinking would cause the game to freeze. :P Programming a jump button is difficult, but hopefully I can improve it a little because it's not great, it at least does the minimal requirement for jumping.

I just found out that there is going to be a "Remaster Collection" of the first three original Tomb Raider games, which includes the only one that ever featured quicksand: Tomb Raider 3.
https://www.ign.com/articles/tomb-raide ... n-february

From the looks of the trailer, they pretty much left the gameplay and level design unaltered (including the blocky terrain). The changes seem to be merely better textures and visual effects. So far I have not found any images showing any of the quicksand. It is coming out on February 14.

When I was young it was such a thrill when Tomb Raider 3 featured quicksand. Alas, the gave it swimming-in-water sound effects rather than some kind of squelching or bubbling, but it was still cool.

It would be amazing if they also changed the sound effects, but I doubt it, as I think it is purely a graphical overhaul.

Yeah, I was all fired up for that one as soon I read in a gaming magazine that TRIII would have quicksand.

When I got to the edge of the "quicksand" I was almost sweating. Then I stepped in and the whole thrill collapsed. It acted just like water except your head slowly goes under if you walk (yes, WALK) in some areas. No struggle motions or getting stuck or anything. When you die by drowning it sounds like you collapse onto dry ground in a heap. Total disappointment.

I still liked the quicksand in TR3 because the surface texture was the same as regular ground and you could only tell the difference because it was swaying slightly, So when you entered a new area it could catch you by surprise if you were not looking closely at the ground. And I also liked the exploration aspect of figuring out which areas were how deep. And perhaps most importantly, you could do something while you were sinking. It was not just an inescapable death trap like in some other video games.

But, yes, the sounds and animations could have been a lot better. If I recall correctly it was not the regular walking animation but a wading-through-water animation they used on her when moving around in quicksand.
