Get a scantily-clad jungle girl in there, and that would be perfect!

Wow!! and Wow again. I wish I had a set like that - the mud was so thick and the submergence was amazing.
Oh, I so want to build something like that!

P.S. I'm shooting with Leila tomorrow - she and I will have a chat!

Hell, I so want to sink in that...

A great scene made better by higher quality footage. Thanks for the find!

yeah I think its the old "rubber sheet with hole in middle above void with layer of mud on top trick" - but I'm pretty sure that the initial step in and sink is pretty much real - well as real as the depth the dug the pit anyway

That is exactly what I thought about the setup as well. It looked like he was sliding down into a hole under the mud. I also noticed by the echo, that it was likely done inside a sound stage.

A film like this was typically shot MOS (which is sometimes attributed to "mit out sprechen") - without sound. So it wouldn't surprise me if all the shouting bits it this film sound 'canned'.
And I also agree with the 'hole in something' technique here. The velocity pretty much gives it away, much like
When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth.
