Here's a scene from Luke Cage, Power Man, with a bad guy who can screw with matter. The cover actually from the issue before this scene, which speaks of someone not able to meet a deadline, or a story going longer than it should.

I had a Hulk comic back in the late 60s/early 70s that had a fully submerged quicksand scene (Incredible Hulk #61). In the previous issue, the villian had trapped him in a large round vat of QS. This issue comes in at that point.
