Quicksand Fans

Excellent find, Doomsand!

This does look like some sort of editorial cartoon using quicksand imagery. I have the faintest idea what it is about, however. That's the problem with such imagery and/or humor applied to the events of the day: once the event has passed, the imagery and the humor often lose their effectiveness. At the same time, it's amazing how much old political imagery and humor can be applied to modern events. Some of the comments made about government by Will Rogers in the 1930s, for example, are still funny because they still ring true when applied to government today.

I wouldn't be surprised if the artist was a closet quicksand fan who was waiting for an opportunity to use quicksand imagery in his work. Apparently, he got that opportunity.

I think that I managed to successfully translate the extremely faint printed caption above and below the picture (couldn't make out the handwriting just above the picture and on the left side, however):

Above picture:
"Marianne's tragedy"

Below picture:
"Always deeper in the political quicksand"

To the upper right, the printing is either "Blue Bonker Film" (if the second word starts with a "B"-Bonker), or "Dark Blue Film" (if the second word starts with a "D"-Donker {dark}).
