I'm not sure if this really belongs in "nuggets" or perhaps the open forum. Its a sort of miscellaneous but not off topic. Not really.

Anyway, the link given here:

is to a news story BBC.com about a liquifaction phenomenon that apparently occurs fairly frequently on board a certain kind of cargo ship, sometimes resulting in loss of the ship. It seems appropriate for this forum as the article includes a discussion of how and when the liquifaction takes place.

Wow, bizarre! Knew about liquifaction of soil during earthquakes, but the idea of ore turning to liquid in a ship's cargo hold, how weird!
