I just came across this new collection of pre-code comic books involving, what else?, pretty ladies in swamps facing horror.

Worth the cover alone, I think.

I've said this before but I'd love to make a video that's anywhere near as atmospheric or bombastic over the top as a single frame of some of these comics. That's an awesome find.

This would be quite a challenge I believe.I think I have argud this somewhere else before but there is a critical differenceof a technicl nature between still and moving images. Specifically, the fact that the moving image, well, moves. That is to say that with a still image one can put evrything into composition, costume, lighting, humn expressions, and the like into a single moment. ith video that has to be sustained ove the duration of the scene, or at least the critical parts of the scene. To actually sustain it in full is, I think, an impossibility. The best one might hope for is some approximation. Some things do not change, of course, such as lighting (unless one moves the chracters or cameras around) but human expressions obviously cannot remain at a maximum, over-the-top intensity throughout a scene of several minutes.

I looked it over. Lots of monsters and badly lacking in quicksand scenes. Except for one with a guy briefly seen in "the devil's quicksand" that turns him into a demon in the very next frame, this is about all it had to offer. Guess we need a "Swamp Babes" collection rather than swamp monsters.

Well, that one scene wasn't too bad, I suppose.

I love those old creepy horror/thriller stories with a ne'er-do-well character getting his/her just desserts, sinking and screaming to their doom in some sandy or muddy mire

I replied to this post before but subsequently an idea occurred. Yeah, I know, ideas are dangerous! While I think my comment before that the over-the-top drama of a single frame of a comic cannot be sustained over the several minutes of a typical video, it might be possible, albeit fairly expensive, to set up so as to produce a few key frames within the video that were carefully planned and contrived for the desired effect. This would clearly result in more very short clips spliced together, with the key clip being something probably set up and shot separately. Rapid-fire, very short clips seemed to work for Lucas though.

Come to think of it, having Lucas' budget would work pretty well for me too.
