Hi
Been a while since I had something new to contribute, but came up with success in this book, 'The Secret of the Bayou' (Francine Davenport, 1967).
The backstory - Louisiana in 1902, Daphne Summerfield takes up job of governess at a plantation set in the isolated bayous. She falls in love with a guy (Charles), and incurs the wrath of a local gypsy woman (Pilar). Towards the end of the book, Pilar has lured Daphne out alone into the swamps with a phony message from Charles...

Average people should learn physics much better. I see the lack of elementary logic in actions due to bad knowledge of the simplest laws of the nature.
The woman doesn't ask the classical question "What this stuff is?" She realizes that it's quicksand. She feels that it's difficult to pull her legs out of the stuff. She sees that she sinks deeper with each step. And what she does? She continues to go forward the same way instead of kneeling and easily getting to her destination point which is in just a 6 feet from her.

There’s so many different worlds
So many different suns
And we have just one world
But we live in different ones
So many different suns
And we have just one world
But we live in different ones

Thanks for feedback, glad you like it.
I have a hunch there's a good few QS scenes just waiting to be discovered out there in gothic romances.

Yes, there are a few. Once I get my new scanner, I will add some.

How unfortunate you didn't have a proper guide to navigate these swamps.
