Here's a collection of sinking from Jonah Hex, a tough western series from the '70s. Two covers, plus a couple of rather grim scenes.

Okay.... I've been sitting on this one long enough...

More than a year ago, I began searching for a quicksand story entitled Stick in the Mud, which was used as an example during the 1950s senate hearings on comics and juvenile delinquency... I learned of its existence by stumbling on transcripts of the hearings themselves posted on line, and so the hunt began...

Recently, I was successful! So here's the last two pages of Stick in the Mud...

The story so far.... a school teacher who hates kids pretends to be nice to one kid because his dad is a widower, and being a successful farmer, she thinks she sees an easy way out. She gets married to him, and then learns a farmer's life ain't easy.... neither is being a farmer's wife. She ends up murdering the fellow, making it look like an accident, and stops pretending to like his young son, abusing the poor fellow and planning to dump him in an orphanage, sell the farm and run off with the cash....

But the best laid plans...

Very good one! I enjoy grim endings so much more when the victim has it coming.

I actualy have that comic myself. The scences in the comic was not much to my taste, but the cover is a KILLER! It sold me right away! I have it stached away in a secure place!!
