While looking for some photos for something besides quicksand I stumbled upon this gem I'd never seen before.

Yeah, that's her. I've seen this one before and it was taken for some men's magazine around 1960. She was a big pinup model and got very popular after playing Apassionata Von Climax on Broadway in Lil Abner. She was opposite Julie Newmar as Stupifyin' Jones. An epic, Biblical, assemblage of legs, boobs, hips, hair, sultry voices, lips, eyes, everything on stage together at the same time. That was a combination that would have killed me to see in person.

She was hacked off at Sherwood Schwartz for the rest of her career for allowing her to become typecast as Ginger on Gilligan's Island. I think he got the last laugh because the character she was playing really was herself and he knew it. 8-)

The reason I wondered is because Ginger on Gilligan's Island has got that 1960's look. She's got the flipped hairdo, she's got '60's makeup...she's a nineteen-sixties kinda gal.

The picture, though, looks to me like it could have been taken anytime at all between then and now. I think it's the windblown hair. You can tell it was styled but precisely how is not clear!

Fantastic image, fabulous lady! :D

I have to confess to being more of a Mary Ann fan, though... ;)

I'll take your word for it, Duncan. My first thought was, if this isn't Tina, it sure looks a lot like her. I guess we just don't expect the quicksand bit from something made in 1960.

She was ticked at him, alright. As I understand it, she was told the series would be one thing, and it turned out to be something very different. I understand Tina later made up with her "Gilligan's Island" co-stars. Let's face it: she was great in that role. In fact that whole cast was good. They may have been too good. They all got typecast. That cast was actually so good and worked so well together, it's small wonder that people thought of the Gilligan's Island characters whenever these actors played other characters.

I still think Bob Denver and Alan Hale Jr. were the closest thing I have ever seen to Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy.

It's too bad there weren't more quicksand scenes with Ginger and Mary Ann. that would've made some of the dumb plots more endurable.

Thanks Duncan for the back story. I just wish I could have found more stills from this photo shoot. Nothing like a buxom, big haired, sixties bombshell in quicksand. So PM2K you'd rather have Mary Ann what about Mrs. Howell? lol, just kidding though with the lack of qs in Gilligan's island I'd have taken Mrs howell over nothing.
