Small article on Ice Cold in Alex (1958)

Postby Tim » Thu Feb 22, 2024 2:48 pm

Hi

Came across this small feature in a 1958 book on the cinema, it is about a guy called George Blackwell who ran a special effects department at the time.

Made from rice pudding eh, did we know that?

The movie contains the much-quoted description of quicksand by John Mills:
"Liquid underneath, with a dry crust on top, and a consistency of mouldy rice pudding".
"Aaaaaarrrrrrggggghhhhh! Quicksand! I'm sinking! I'll go straight to the bottom of.......GLURP!"
(a month later)
"Ugh! Yukkkh! Ptui! I'm out of it! I'm free! Not even quicksand can defeat the power of.....the Eye of Zoltec!"
