Quicksand Fans

Okay so it’s a really old short video with technically no deep sinking, but I had never seen it before and I just thought it was really interesting to see how all of that quicksand moved downwards into the lake. Imagine sinking in that.

Although it would probably be dangerous if the mud starts piling up over you.

I looked into this pretty seriously back in the day. But the logistics were just too much to deal with compared to what could be done (with known quantities) at Lake Mead.

Take a look at how remote the upper reaches of Lake Powell are. You'd have to be on the water, for sure. But the rentals (and I'm not sure there are that many now) are many miles 'downstream' from there.

Was last at the Lake Powell mudflats two summers ago, there is better mud than what is shown here above the White Canyon rapids as you head into Hite Canyon. Boat rental was not a problem at Bullfrog Marina but you need to be aware that the Dangling Rope Marina is permanently closed so you will need to carry a lot of extra gas if you want to go downriver towards Wahweap Marina near Page, Arizona.

Can potentially be available to share costs if anyone wants to do Lake Powell this summer. Best time for mud begins in late July when the water levels begin to drop.

That does look like a nice jumping off point, for sure. Now, regarding unlimited time and money ....

It sure would but I'm about 99.44% certain that adventures in the desert southwest for anything like that are behind us.

Well, perhaps some new producers will do something like that, but I will add that this something that Studio 588 will not do and has never even considered doing.
