I remember that scene when it aired on Monday nights right after Gunsmoke. Blew me away even then. 8-)

Well, here it is as a rather puny Real Media file.

I'll be posting a much improved version before too long.

Holy cow! Quicksand and two of the greatest comedians of all time: Lucille Ball and Jack Benny. This has got to rank as one of the funniest quicksand scenes ever made, if not the funniest. We don't have funny people like these two anymore.

Ah, yes, I remember watching this scene when I was quite little. I recall being pleased that Lucy was wearing a skirt and that her calves could be seen as she slowly sank into the quicksand. I also remember being fascinated by the quicksand falling from her shoes and back into the pit as she walked along.

Her daughter, Lucie Arnaz, also got to sink in quicksand in the 1980 TV movie, The Mating Season.

Thanks for sharing!

You're so right... Ms Ball and Mr. Benny are members of a rare and most talented breed.

I discovered this link the other day and thought I'd share with the community. The site has three pix of the sinking and several others of the episode.

I had seen this once and thought I was dreaming as Lucy and Benny walked in. I didn't see the full sink until after the VHS era and the documentary on her had that episode. (Play... Fast forward... Play... RewindPlay... RewindPlay... RewindPlay... Pause)

So... $25,000 for the construction of the quicksand set? A single episode? Pfew that's a lot of dough. I think that this is similar to Jim Weathers Bondage Cafe quicksand set, which I he's had two or three.

Enjoy.

Great find. As mentioned about ten years ago I watched this as it originally aired. Had to wait for the reruns in the summer to catch it again but I didn't miss it. One thing I took from the description of the set is I had figured out almost exactly what was going on behind the scenes. Lots of practice I guess.
