Thanks Fred! In case you were wondering, "Quicksand Roulette" was a term that was casually mentioned in your story! lol! Why I thought the actual name of the story was "Quicksand Roulette", I have no idea!
Yes, I saw that as soon as I read the story prior to sending it to you this morning.
As the term was not explained, I suppose I could define it now as a game of some sort played by customers of Psychic World in which they essentially play Russion Roulette except using a jump into a quicksand pit instead of a click of a revolver. The first one to go under loses!
In one episode of the new Dr Who program there was a game played - involuntarily - on a space station that could be adapted fairly easily. It was a version of "Weakest Link" in which, as I remember it, the contestant with the poorest score after each round was vaporized. I don't normally have enough actresses at any single video shoot to do it but I can see a similar game in which the loser of each round has to jump or be pushed into quicksand. I can also imagine a story about a world in which batches of condemned prisoners are forced to play some sort of game and then get to choose the manner of their own executions according to their scores. That would be a sick world but could certainly be feature of a story.
